“The Emissary” Review

I haven’t done a lot of reviews on audiobooks, although I love them, I end up reading the book as well. But when I got the chance to listen to this audiobook and reviewed it, I had too.

“The Emissary“, written by Tamara Veitch and Rene DeFazio, is the first book in the One Great Year series, published on October 9, 2018. A Fantasy novel that is also an audiobook narrated by both authors.

I received a complimentary audiocopy of this book thanks to Tamara Veitch and Rene DeFazio. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Synopsis

Authors Bio

Rene DeFazio and Tamara Veitch are a husband and wife writing team. Rene is an actor, producer and author. Tamara studied English,History and General Arts at Simon Fraser University.

Rene DeFazio was born and raised in Canada and currently resides in the Vancouver area with his wife and writing partner Tamara Veitch. Rene is an actor and producer with numerous film and television roles to his credit. A world traveler and lifelong adventurer, Rene has called upon his unusual and exciting experiences in co-creating The One Great Year novel series. His tireless research and first hand knowledge of exotic locations, customs, sights, and smells help to bring this epic story to life.

Tamara Veitch is a writer, mural artist, and mother of three. She grew up in Canada and attended Simon Fraser University, studying English, psychology, history and General Arts. Tamara has had a lifelong interest in spiritual wisdom and has carefully researched ancient teachings from many traditions to ensure historical accuracy throughout The One Great Year Series.

Tamara and Rene have completed Book I and II in The One Great Year Series and are currently working on Book III. To maintain a dynamic and authentic presentation of the ancient secrets at the core of their writing, they travel to exotic locations in search of esoteric knowledge and cultural insights that will inspire readers everywhere.

In 2012 they received Honorable mention from the New York Book Festival and The London Book Festival. In 2014 they were each awarded an Empowered Writers Award at the World International Peace festival In Vancouver BC, Canada.

My Review

P1070225 I haven’t reviewed many audiobooks before, but this one, just from the synopsis, I knew that it would be an amazing fantasy novel that I really wanted to know more about, no matter if it was by listening to the authors narrate it or by reading it. I didn’t care, I just wanted to be a part of the adventure, and that’s what happened.

I could tell you all about the world that the authors created but I don’t want to spoil anything, so I will leave it in the air, let’s just say that this world is complex, although not enough that you would be confused. Like life itself, it has many aspects, many characters that are connected, twists and turns, action and good and evil battling out.

P1070204 I loved that I got to discover all the peculiarities about this world and about the emissaries by listening to the authors narrate the story. I listen to it during workout at the gym and at some points, I was running and I could almost feel like I was there with the characters and was running around. It was perfect for me and I loved that, I loved that the authors not only captivated me with the storytelling and the amazing characters and world, but they also captivated me with how they narrated the story.

I almost don’t know what to say or think. I want to know more about the characters and I want to know if good wins and the future of mankind is safe. I felt like I was on a rollercoaster, thanks to all the emotions, adrenaline, curiosity and concentration I had during the multiple times I listen to the audiobook.

P1070217 I didn’t listen to it in one sitting because I wanted to savor every moment and understand the world to it’s fullest. Yet I was still wondering and looking for all the answers and trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Since it’s a storytelling about rebirth and love, as much as it is about saving mankind, in this fantasy world, my heart was fully in.

Overall, it’s an amazing start of a series and I can’t wait to know more and read and listen to more of their books in this series. Do I recommend it? Of course! If the synopsis and my review haven’t sold the book yet, I do hope you still give it a try, just look at the cover and it’s awesome design.
