“In the Mood” Review

Hello Everyone!

Life as been crazy, I’m going back to school to get my master in Intercultural Mediation and Social Intervention, which means I won’t have a lot of time to get reviews done. That is, until I get things back on track. But, one thing is for sure, reading as helped me keeping my sanity.

One of the books I read while getting things ready was the one I’m reviewing right now.

“In The Mood“, written by M. W. Arnold, is a Historical Saga, the Fourth Book in Broken Wings series, published on 26th September 2022.

About the Author

Mick is a hopeless romantic who was born in England and spent fifteen years roaming around the world in the pay of HM Queen Elizabeth II in the Royal Air Force before putting down roots and realizing how much he missed the travel. He’s replaced it somewhat with his writing, including reviewing books and supporting fellow saga and romance authors in promoting their novels.

He’s the proud keeper of two Romanian Were Cats bent on world domination, is mad on the music of the Beach Boys, and enjoys the theatre and humoring his Manchester United-supporting wife. My Review

When I first read a book by M.W. Arnold, I was captivated by the story and the characters he brought to us. This series also gave me the same feeling as that first book.

“In The Mood” is the forth book in the Broken Wings series, so if you haven’t read the previous books, you really should, because we go back to following the ladies at the Air Transport Auxiliary, during WWII.

War is still going, and some mysteries continue as we go through the motions of the drama and romance, and above all, as we continue the friendship with the characters. These women just captured my heart and mind from the first time they were introduced, and I was really invested in this book to see what was going to happen. Ending up in a rollercoaster of events.

There is still a strong connection to the previous elements of the other three books, with the planes and war and personal events, it just keep building up. Lots of battles to fight and a friendship continuing to give them strength and comfort. To give me comfort in a way, to keep going with my day and the busy schedule.

Overall, I was not disappointed and it was yet another solid book by M.W. Arnold that reminded me of why I like his writing and this genre.

About the Author

I’m a man. And a pretty old man as well. I did languages at university a long time ago and then lived and worked in France and Switzerland before going to Italy for seven years as a teacher of English. My Italian wife and I then came back to the UK with our little daughter (now long-since grown up) where I ran a big English language school for many years. We now live in a sleepy little village in Devonshire. I’ve been writing almost all my life but it was only seven years ago that I finally managed to find a publisher who liked my work enough to offer me my first contract.

The fact that I am now writing escapist romance is something I still find hard to explain. My early books were thrillers and historical novels. Maybe it’s because there are so many horrible things happening in the world today that I feel I need to do my best to provide something to cheer my readers up. My books provide escapism to some gorgeous locations, even if travel to them is currently difficult.

My Review

Being transported to Italy is something that T.A. Williams’ books do to us readers. With the past couple of years being complicated for everyone that loves to travel, stories like this one, setting in beautiful places, really help. I have travel this year, yet not to Italy, which is a country I really want to explore in the future, meanwhile I will read this author’s books.

“A Chance in a Million” is a romance story that is as emotional and sweet as one may hope. It follows Jane as she takes a new job assisting Veronica Cooper, a wonderful woman still morning her husband passing.

Through the story we are taken on a journey, discovering more about the Cooper family, specially David – Veronica’s son, but also understanding Jane’s life and watching her picking up the pieces of herself. Connecting with the characters and seeing how they all have something in common, how they are all broken and imperfect, was just what I needed. Yes, they may be struggling, but they are trying to figure out their life and the path to find themselves again.

Following the characters through the lovely city of Venice, just made me want to visit it even more. It’s something I always love about the author’s books, the fact that it take us to another country and show us beautiful places were he set emotional and sweet stories.

T.A. Williams as once again made me smile, dream and fall in love with the characters he has created. And I’m absolutely thankful that I got a chance to read this book.

About the Author

Rachael Stewart adores conjuring up stories for the readers of Harlequin Mills & Boon and Deep Desires Press, with tales varying from the heartwarmingly romantic to the wildly erotic.

She’s been writing since she could put pen to paper as the stacks of scrawled on A4 sheets in her loft will attest to, and the lovingly bound short stories that her father would run off at work and proudly share out with his colleagues. Thinking it was a pipe dream to be published one day, she pursued a sensible career in business but she was really play-acting, achieving the appropriate degree and spending many years in the corporate world where she never truly belonged. My Review

I love Rachael’s books. They are the kind of books that are snacks for me. Not only do I read them with easy, but they give me substance to go on in life. And this romance was just what I needed.

A Greek setting, a private island, an actress and a millionaire. What could go wrong? Nothing, because Rachael Stewart wrote a beautiful novel with sexy times, likeable characters… the connection between Alaric and Catherine was lovely and exciting, and I love the romance that grow between them.

Overall, once again she didn’t not disappoint me and it was fantastic. One of those books I know I can reread whenever I get in the mood for romance and need those classic stories.

My Review

Two stories, one book. Two Christmassy stories in a historical romance genre. In The Christmas Runaway by Jenni Fletcher and In Their Snowbound Reunion by Elisabeth Hobbes. I love Jenni Fletcher and Elisabeth Hobbes’ books, so I was very excited to see what these stories would bring. And… Get ready for the Holiday because this book will put you right back on that festive spirit.

A runaway woman, a handsome Scottish man. The all brother of her best friend love story. Jenni Fletcher bring us Fiona and Angus in a brilliant novella that as both romantic, exciting, fun and full of bickering and attraction.

Childhood sweethearts in a lovely romance. Elisabeth Hobbes brings us Amy and Anthony, in a story that talks about misunderstandings, second chances and love.

Both novellas had unique characters that I loves. Enemies to lovers and Second chances, both were amazing in the setting and time period of the book. I loved that in a way I could relate to the characters and that I could understand why things had happen.

Both authors were brilliant, and despite being very much independent stories, they complemented one another with their themes of Love, friendship, chances and changes. Plus the warmth of the story and characters.

My Review

Rosie Clarke bring us a brand new series, introduced with this book. A book in the WWII era about family, friendship, love and how the times of war affects the community. I love historical novels in that saga subgenre because of how it always have that sense of community and understanding. The characters could be our family members and these could be the stories our grandparents told.

As we get to know the families and the main characters we get to follow in this journey, we are also introduce to the rural ton of Blackberry Farm and also the context of the WWII at that time. I could help myself, I as very curious to know what would happen next. I wanted happiness for the characters and my heart was with them from beginning to end.

Overall, I enjoyed it, and since it was the start of a new series, it made sense that not everything was resolved or even uncovered, and I can’t wait for the next book.

“Red Rose” Review

About the Author

Katie Ward always knew she wanted to write for a living. However, she was told by her careers advisor that “it might be more appropriate for you to work in a shop”. When Katie didn’t get the grades she needed to get into college, she negotiated a three month trial. After successfully completing the course she secured a place at her first choice university to study Journalism.

After realising she wanted to be an author, Katie moved to Dublin where she worked her way up from receptionist to Executive Assistant at Merrill Lynch. Katie continued to write in her spare time, submitting her short story into the “Do the Write Thing” competition being run by Irish TV show ‘Seoige and O’Shea’. This story was originally written when Katie was 14 after she was inspired by an article in her favourite teen magazine. Katie was the only non-Irish author selected to have her story published in an anthology of the same name which reached 19 in the Irish Best sellers List. Katie was also shortlisted for a competition judged by MAN Booker Prize winning author Roddy Doyle which was run by Metro Eireann newspaper.

Katie currently lives in Devon with her cat (aka ‘Her Royal Fluffiness’) where she sings in a community choir and has recently taken up Archery. Katie’s favourite author has been Roald Dahl since she was a child as she loves the dark edge he brings to his books. On the flip side though, Katie loves Disney, magic, unicorns and a good rom com film at the cinema with her friends.

My Review

New Adult is a genre that I’m reading more in the last few months, and this book was part of that list.

As we follow Autumn in her journey were met her loved ones, and see how brave she was for making decision to find happiness. It kind of made me want to go on a journey like this one, of getting out of my comfort zone. Yet, the book has another side of it, one that was emotional and that made me rethink a lot of things.

The relevant issues and experiences that Autumn and those around her go through was a good message and very thought provoking. There were difficult things to go through, there were emotional moments from the very beginning.

And even though I love the idea of going to another city and going on a self-discovery journey, that I really loved more was the interactions between the characters, it was the love, and it was the heart-warming side of the story that touched my heart and made me wonder more.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. I loved the rollercoaster and the journey until the very ending.

“The Score” Review

My Review

This isn’t the first book by Kerry Kaya that I have ready, and I may have liked this one even more than the previous one.

Going back to the world, going back to this gangland story… it was interesting and I was hooked yet again.

We continue following the characters lives, we get to go on a dangerous journey with them and I love the thrill and the mystery that still exists.

Fast paced, exciting and very intriguing. Although I don’t have many experiences with Thrillers in a gangland genre, I was fascinated by the interactions the tone of the writing and the compelling characters.

Overall, I enjoyed the story and I’m curious about other books by the author.

“Never Fall For Your Fiancée” Review

I have been away since I started work, I will try to get back to reviewing books, and today I bring one. A book from an author I enjoy.

“Never Fall For Your Fiancée“, written by Virginia Health, is a Historical Romantic Comedy, the first book in The Merriwell Sisters Series, published November 9th 2021 by St. Martin’s Griffin.

My Review

Virginia Health’s books are always on my list, every time a new book is release or is going to be release, I get curious and excited. When I saw this book I was intrigued.

“Never Fall for Your Fiancée” is a Historical Rom-Com, and it wasn’t a surprise. Something I always loved about Virginia Health’s books is the humor in it, because it gave a good balance to the romance and the historical context. Rom-Com’s wasn’t something I thought I would like when I was young, but the added of historical aspects was something that really made me curious. That been said, this book was just spot on, in terms of genre.

As we follow Minerva and Hugh we go on a new journey. We get to know a new-to-us family, and a new social group, since this is the start of a new series. Those of us that have read other books by the author, we know that she give us amazing male characters, and in this story I was not disappoint.

Minerva is one of the Merriwell and she is asked by Hugh Standish, the Earl of Fareham, to pose as his fiancée. I loved that kind of trope. The fake fiancée plot can bring so many possibilities, and Virginia Health did a brilliant job, not that I excepted any less. And the plot of the book had a good development, that and the pace allowed me to understand the characters’ motivations and their background. It all made sense with the romance and how it begun.

Overall, it was amazing to go back to Virginia Health’s world, and to a brand new series with family in the mix. It was a very fun and lovely book to read, specially while resting and relaxing. It gave me laughs, it made me happy, it made me curious, it made me love the characters and want to be a part of the Merriwell Sisters.

About the Author

Natalie’s passion for reading became a compulsion to write when she attended a ten-week course in creative writing some sixteen or so years ago. She takes delight in creating short stories of which more than forty have been published, but it was her lifelong love of Regency romance that led her to turn from contemporary romantic fiction to try her hand at her favourite genre. Raised on a diet of Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer, she is never happier than when immersed in an age of etiquette and manners, fashion and intrigue, all combined into a romping good tale. She lives on the London/Kent border, close to the capital’s plethora of museums and galleries which she uses for research as well as pleasure. A perfect day though is when she heads out of town to enjoy lunch by a pub on the river, any river, in company with her husband and friends.

Natalie is a member of the Romantic Novelists Association, the Society of Authors and the Society of Women Writers and Journalists.

My Review

Historical romance is a genre I love, as you all that follow my reviews may know by now. Regency was how I started and I was very curious about Natalie Kleinman’s book.

In this novel we follow Prudence and Jack, two people that know one another which made the story touching and interesting. As I read the story, knowing already – thanks to the synopsis – some elements of the plot, I wonder how Prudence and Jack met, and how life would get them back together.

The tittle is the essence of the book, I could understand Prudence’s thoughts and action while grieving, an I understand how pride can many times be in the way of reconciliation. The story was emotional, but also dynamic, as it give us interesting character – main and secondary – and a good interaction in terms of social and personal contexts.

Overall, Natalie Kleinman did a briliant job, and I was not disappointed. With each page and the unfolding of the situation with Prudence’s father and then with Jack, as well as the journey she takes to her family’s house, but also a mental journey, I was captivated by every moment of reading this story. Just as I expected from this author’s work.

About the Author

Deirdre lives in Brighton, on the south coast of England. She writes women’s and psychological fiction under her own name, and as Zara Thorne. Becoming an author was a childhood dream, although she didn’t have much of a clue as to what it meant. But fast forward several years – okay, many years – and the dream showed signs of becoming reality. She entered the Mail on Sunday Novel Competition, twice, and came fourth, twice. So there was the incentive to complete her first novel, Remarkable Things, which was published by Crooked Cat and shortlisted for the Romantic Novelists’ Association Joan Hessayon Award. My Review

Psychological Thriller or Suspense novel is a genre I have been reading more and more. I love movies or TV shows that have that vibe, but I never read many books that had those characteristics. ‘The Girl In The Tunnel’ was very interesting and if it were a movie of tv show, it would be my jam years ago, now it’s the perfect book for a cozy weekend reading and jumping into the story.

Set in London this book follows Ellen and a mystery. We met Carl and connect with him as he and Ellen begin to know one another. There is a sister and her married lover, Matt. There is an underground scenery. All perfect to set the mood for a thriller.

Because of the genre of the book I won’t go in details. But, what I can say is that it was very intriguing. The tone of the book caught my attention from the beginning. It made curious sometimes, then other times I was wondering about the new information and all the “what if’s”.

Overall, it was enjoyable and had a good amount of mystery, suspense and social interactions.
