“In the Mood” Review

Hello Everyone!

Life as been crazy, I’m going back to school to get my master in Intercultural Mediation and Social Intervention, which means I won’t have a lot of time to get reviews done. That is, until I get things back on track. But, one thing is for sure, reading as helped me keeping my sanity.

One of the books I read while getting things ready was the one I’m reviewing right now.

“In The Mood“, written by M. W. Arnold, is a Historical Saga, the Fourth Book in Broken Wings series, published on 26th September 2022.

About the Author

Mick is a hopeless romantic who was born in England and spent fifteen years roaming around the world in the pay of HM Queen Elizabeth II in the Royal Air Force before putting down roots and realizing how much he missed the travel. My Review

When I first read a book by M.W. Arnold, I was captivated by the story and the characters he brought to us. This series also gave me the same feeling as that first book.

“In The Mood” is the forth book in the Broken Wings series, so if you haven’t read the previous books, you really should, because we go back to following the ladies at the Air Transport Auxiliary, during WWII.

War is still going, and some mysteries continue as we go through the motions of the drama and romance, and above all, as we continue the friendship with the characters. These women just captured my heart and mind from the first time they were introduced, and I was really invested in this book to see what was going to happen. Ending up in a rollercoaster of events.

There is still a strong connection to the previous elements of the other three books, with the planes and war and personal events, it just keep building up. Lots of battles to fight and a friendship continuing to give them strength and comfort. To give me comfort in a way, to keep going with my day and the busy schedule.

Overall, I was not disappointed and it was yet another solid book by M.W. Arnold that reminded me of why I like his writing and this genre.

About the Author

I’m a man. And a pretty old man as well. I did languages at university a long time ago and then lived and worked in France and Switzerland before going to Italy for seven years as a teacher of English. My Italian wife and I then came back to the UK with our little daughter (now long-since grown up) where I ran a big English language school for many years. We now live in a sleepy little village in Devonshire. I’ve been writing almost all my life but it was only seven years ago that I finally managed to find a publisher who liked my work enough to offer me my first contract.

The fact that I am now writing escapist romance is something I still find hard to explain. My early books were thrillers and historical novels. Maybe it’s because there are so many horrible things happening in the world today that I feel I need to do my best to provide something to cheer my readers up. My books provide escapism to some gorgeous locations, even if travel to them is currently difficult.

My Review

Being transported to Italy is something that T.A. Williams’ books do to us readers. With the past couple of years being complicated for everyone that loves to travel, stories like this one, setting in beautiful places, really help. I have travel this year, yet not to Italy, which is a country I really want to explore in the future, meanwhile I will read this author’s books.

“A Chance in a Million” is a romance story that is as emotional and sweet as one may hope. It follows Jane as she takes a new job assisting Veronica Cooper, a wonderful woman still morning her husband passing.

Through the story we are taken on a journey, discovering more about the Cooper family, specially David – Veronica’s son, but also understanding Jane’s life and watching her picking up the pieces of herself. Connecting with the characters and seeing how they all have something in common, how they are all broken and imperfect, was just what I needed. Yes, they may be struggling, but they are trying to figure out their life and the path to find themselves again.

Following the characters through the lovely city of Venice, just made me want to visit it even more. It’s something I always love about the author’s books, the fact that it take us to another country and show us beautiful places were he set emotional and sweet stories.

T.A. Williams as once again made me smile, dream and fall in love with the characters he has created. And I’m absolutely thankful that I got a chance to read this book.

My Review

First of all, I’m very happy to be back to reviewing, specially with a sweet second chance romance.

Although this book is part of a series (you can learn about book one “Summer in Bellbird Bay” and book two “Coming Home to Bellbird Bay” in those links), this story can be followed easily since it’s a standalone. I do have to say, though, that I will be getting the previous books in the future so that I can learn more about the Bellbird Bay community and the characters I was introduced to.

That been said, let’s get to this third book.

“Starting Over in Bellbird Bay” follows Cleo Johansen after she moved with her daughter to Bellbird Bay, after her husband passed away. In a new adventure, looking for a second chance to live her life, to start making new memories. We also get to know Will Rankin, former surf champion, owner of the local surf school and widow.

Both Will and Cleo are parents, and despite the fact that I’m not, I could still understand their love for their children and the importance of family. That love and connection could also be seen in the community and their interactions. Will and Cleo have a group of friends, they have a support system, that starts with Owen and Hannah and ends in all the people around them that also love them.

Another thing I enjoyed was the drama, with the Facebook message Hannah receives to the harassment Will is getting from someone he once gave a few surf classes. It added moments of tension and opens the possibility for more interactions and opportunities to learn about the characters.

And of course, we can’t forget the romance. Usually, I read romance books that have younger characters, with ages closer to my own, or a bit older, but this couple brings a new type of books that I really need to explore more about. I need to read stories about later in life love and second chances. Will and Cleo definitely have a second chance to find love after losing their partners, and it all starts with some friends’ idea of Will and Cleo pretending to be in a relationship. Which I loved, by the way.

Overall, it was a fun, sweet and interesting book. It had a mature group of characters that made me laugh and enjoy each moment of their interactions. It had a beautiful scenery, and as someone that lives close by the central coast of Portugal, having a connection with the beach and all its beauty is always a plus, even if it’s in another country and even continent, or fictional place.

About the Author

Natalie’s passion for reading became a compulsion to write when she attended a ten-week course in creative writing some sixteen or so years ago. My Review

This isn’t the first novel I have read of the genre (historical romances in a regency setting) nor is it my first Natalie Kleinman’s book. And it was my honor to read and review this story.

Has we follow Patience Worthington, after her life turns upside down when her father – the Reverend in the countryside – dies, we go on a journey of discovery and it’s almost felt like I was her companion, trying to willed her to a good path and going through the journey no matter what.

Then there is Lord Gideon, the handsome new Viscount, that decides to help out Patience by offering her a place to stay. That’s what family does, right?

But things don’t always go well, and that dynamic and excitement of each interaction between the characters, specially Patience and Gideon, was just amazing and got me going.

Natalie Kleinman did a beautiful job in grabbing my attention with the strong personality that Patience had and how the setting took me to a time and place, with some set of rules that are different from what we are used to, and yet, I could understand the characters motivations, and the social dynamics.

I have always enjoyed this author’s writing and creativity with her plots and characters. This book had those elements and I really had a good time in my breaks at work, exactly what I needed it.

My Review

Brand Ivarsson of Kald and Lady Anne of Termarth… Two characters in a historical romance novel written by a new-to-me author.

I love viking historical romances. Not that I have read many in that subgenre, but it’s something I always found fascinating, nevertheless, this book was lovely.

It had a plot that I have seen, the abduction of the main female character, yet it had other elements in the story that made me excited to keep reading and learning how the characters came to that moment.

Loved Anne and Brand’s connection and how vengeance turned into surprise and into love. How a prisoner actually capture the heart of her abductor.

Overall, it was amazing and I enjoyed it a lot.

Rachael Stewart adores conjuring up stories for the readers of Harlequin Mills & Boon and Deep Desires Press, with tales varying from the heartwarmingly romantic to the wildly erotic.

She’s been writing since she could put pen to paper as the stacks of scrawled on A4 sheets in her loft will attest to, and the lovingly bound short stories that her father would run off at work and proudly share out with his colleagues. Thinking it was a pipe dream to be published one day, she pursued a sensible career in business but she was really play-acting, achieving the appropriate degree and spending many years in the corporate world where she never truly belonged. My Review

I love Rachael’s books. They are the kind of books that are snacks for me. Not only do I read them with easy, but they give me substance to go on in life. And this romance was just what I needed.

A Greek setting, a private island, an actress and a millionaire. What could go wrong? Nothing, because Rachael Stewart wrote a beautiful novel with sexy times, likeable characters… the connection between Alaric and Catherine was lovely and exciting, and I love the romance that grow between them.

Overall, once again she didn’t not disappoint me and it was fantastic. One of those books I know I can reread whenever I get in the mood for romance and need those classic stories.

My Review

Melissa Oliver is turning into one of my favorite authors in this genre, and I’m always excited about her new books.

In the one we continue the Notorious Knights series with Brida O’Conaill and Sir Thomas Lovent. We have met our lovely staring characters in the previous book and I have to say that I was curious about them and their story.

The plot on this novel, the marriage pretense, it was very interesting and fun to read about. The way the characters acted and the connection they had in each scene. It was unconventional and yet emotional and intriguing. I wonder how thing would go, would they me discover, how would they react.

Overall, I won’t reveal spoilers about the ending or even the development of the story, but it was amazing. I loved it! It was different, with all it’s secrets, background story and drama, and just what I needed. I’m quite a historical romances addict and this book hit the spot for me.

My Review

Although this is part of a series and I just jumped to the story, I had too check it out and read it.

For those that don’t know me, I have a big family, and most of my paternal family is in France. I have some cousins in the Alsace area, and I have visited it, so I was interested to see what the author had for us in terms of scenery.

In this book we follow Ellie and Henri as they go on a trip to the lovely vineyard in Alsace. They both want different things. They both have problems, they both have to work on a balance of what they what, what they need and what they are willing to change. They both are realistic and I felt as if I knew them personally.

The story was powerful. Lots of love and friends, in a beautiful place. Drama and taking chances. The idea of settling down versus running from commitment. In the end we will see if their faith in each other and in their love is enough to find that balance. And isn’t that life?

About the Author

Jenni Fletcher is the award-winning author of 15 historical romances. She has been nominated for 4 RoNA Awards and won the Libertà Books Shorter Romantic Novel Award in 2020. She lives in Yorkshire with her family and can be contacted via Twitter @JenniAuthor.

Elisabeth’s writing career began when she finished in third place in Harlequin’s So You Think You Can Write contest in 2013.  She was offered a two-book contract and consequently had to admit secret writing was why the house was such a tip.  She is the author of numerous historical romances with Harlequin Mills & Boon covering the Medieval period to Victorian England, and a Second World War romantic historical with One More Chapter. My Review

Two stories, one book. Two Christmassy stories in a historical romance genre. In The Christmas Runaway by Jenni Fletcher and In Their Snowbound Reunion by Elisabeth Hobbes. I love Jenni Fletcher and Elisabeth Hobbes’ books, so I was very excited to see what these stories would bring. And… Get ready for the Holiday because this book will put you right back on that festive spirit.

A runaway woman, a handsome Scottish man. The all brother of her best friend love story. Jenni Fletcher bring us Fiona and Angus in a brilliant novella that as both romantic, exciting, fun and full of bickering and attraction.

Childhood sweethearts in a lovely romance. Elisabeth Hobbes brings us Amy and Anthony, in a story that talks about misunderstandings, second chances and love.

Both novellas had unique characters that I loves. Enemies to lovers and Second chances, both were amazing in the setting and time period of the book. I loved that in a way I could relate to the characters and that I could understand why things had happen.

Both authors were brilliant, and despite being very much independent stories, they complemented one another with their themes of Love, friendship, chances and changes. Plus the warmth of the story and characters.

My Review

Rosie Clarke bring us a brand new series, introduced with this book. A book in the WWII era about family, friendship, love and how the times of war affects the community. I love historical novels in that saga subgenre because of how it always have that sense of community and understanding. The characters could be our family members and these could be the stories our grandparents told.

As we get to know the families and the main characters we get to follow in this journey, we are also introduce to the rural ton of Blackberry Farm and also the context of the WWII at that time. I could help myself, I as very curious to know what would happen next. I wanted happiness for the characters and my heart was with them from beginning to end.

Overall, I enjoyed it, and since it was the start of a new series, it made sense that not everything was resolved or even uncovered, and I can’t wait for the next book.
