My Review

This book is the second one in the series, and I have read and reviewed the previous book so I was very curious to read this one and see where the characters and the story continued.

As soon as I started to read the novel, I was taken back to this world. It takes the reader in a new journey with the aftermath of the previous book. I won’t say much because it’s a continuation of the first book and I don’t want to accidentally reveal spoilers.

I loved to see where the characters are now and how they developed with the events in this story. How the relationships are now. We get to learn more about certain characters, because it’s a series and the characters develop, they still have secrets that are being revealed. And I love that the author gave us more information about the characters.

Paranormal is one of my favorite genres and this series grabbed my attention since the beginning. The way this second novel flowed, the plot, the pace, the amount of action… it made it an exciting read.

I may even reread the books in the future to see if I missed any extra detail. This is the kind of series that deserve a reread. Overall, this book was another rollercoaster of emotion, and I loved ever moment reading it.

Magical Intelligence

Synopsis

Magical Intelligence CoverWhen you are a member of Britain’s first team of wizard spies, every mission might be your last. But as the dawning of the 20th century draws ever nearer, magic grows weak. Violectric Dampening, the clash of man-made electricity with the Gifts of magekind, threatens M.I.’s existence. And if that isn’t enough, they’ve now been discharged from their own government. Obsolete. Distrusted.

And now hunted by one of their own.

Myra Wetherby has always feared her so-called fits, strange visions of people and places that she cannot explain. It is the emotional manipulation, however, a strange empathic connection to those around her, which threatens her very sanity. Which makes Myra one of them . . . whether she likes it or not.

My Review

This is the first book I have ever read by this author, and since I love fantasy, and this is the first novel in a brand new series, I had to jump in and give it a go. Plus, the synopsis was very intriguing to me.

As we follow Myra’s journey in this novel and get to uncover all the interesting aspect about the world, we are taken to a world that isn’t exactly ours, but still has some elements of connection, and I do enjoy a book that in a fantasy world that is kind of our own reality but has some magical elements to it, that we don’t quite have.

P1070790I loved the concept of this story and how the magic worked because I always find the intricacy of a fantasy world so fascinating. Plus… it’s not just magic… it has spies! To be honest, when I read the synopsis and saw that word, I wasn’t entirely sure what to think, but the more I tried to come up with possibilities, the more intrigued I was.

It’s just the beginning of a series and there was a lot that I’m still uncertain and curious about. One of the things I’m interested in seeing more is the characters development, especially Myra’s. There are questions to be answers, mysteries to be revealed, and more to learn about the characters and the world.

Overall, I found that it was a different story and I liked it. I will keep my eyes open for the next books in the series so I can keep going because I am curious about what will happen next.

Author Bio

Julian Barr first fell in love with all things ancient and magical in childhood, when he staged his own version of I, Claudius using sock puppets. After his PhD in Classics, he did a brief stint as a schoolteacher, hated being called ‘sir,’ and dived into storytelling. Although he remains open to the possibilities of sock puppet theatre, historical fantasy is his passion. He has published scholarly research on Roman medicine and the gastronomic habits of Centaurs, but prefers to think of himself as an itinerant bard. He is also the author of the Ashes of Olympus trilogy.

My Review

This is the first story I’m reading written by Julian Barr and I do love that he compiled the novellas all in one book because I just kept reading one after the other with no worries, just has I would read a big book.

Now, we are taken to a world with a set of rules and we follow Dóta in her journey to discover herself and her human side. That’s something we can relate at one point in our lives, we end up trying to figure out who we are as people, our likes and dislikes, our goals, our place in the world. And I kind of could relate to Dóta in that aspect, although her journey is different.

As we read the book we get to learn about the world and the characters, it’s a place of myths and magic, with adventure and everything that entails, from action scenes to drama. Each page, each moment, brought some new information as well as questions, and it grabbed my attention to learn more.

The characters were interesting and the interaction were realistic in some ways, with the old world vibe. Dóta was such an intriguing character from the very beginning and she goes on her adventure through the new world, we go right along side her.

Life is full of ups and downs, full of moments of obstacles, of uncovering secrets, of fighting for our goals, and in a way, this story had that, which made me enjoy the story and be excited to read the next page just to see if I was right, if I was going to learn more, what the characters would do… basically what was going to happen in the next scene.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book with the three novellas in it. It was engaging and it left me wondering about humankind and our nature, as well as what this world had to offer, at each page I read. I do hope the author goes back to the world and take us back to it to follow other character, because it was an interesting take in the Nordic mythology and magic in a fantasy novel.

Q & A

Q: In a few words, how would you describe Deadwave?

A: Deadwave is a cyberpunk science fiction novel with elements of young adult (protagonist is nineteen) and the action and pacing of a high-octane thriller novel. Deadwave can be compared to the books Ready Player One and Altered Carbon in many ways and at its core tells the story of Sam in his quest to win the Deadwave World Championship, where the world’s top competitors at the virtual reality, zombie, battle royale video game all compete to win the prize of ten million dollars. However, Sam also has to try and escape a secretive group of wealthy people attempting to kill him to access the patents to a world-changing technology that his father’s company owns.

Q: How long will the Conspiracy Chronicles be?

A: At the time of writing this, it will certainly be at least five books, but likely much longer. The first three novels, Deadwave , Blood Brothers , and The Last Migration , will be released in the fall of 2019 with the next few novels being released in the spring of 2020.

Q: What inspired you to write Deadwave?

A: In many ways, the entire Conspiracy Chronicles was necessary for me to write in order to flesh out the backstory of my first series Control Freakz. This ended up turning into a much longer and complex story than I originally anticipated that I plan to form the foundation of a fictional universe that will encompass many different series. This series in particular draws on my fascination and passion with video games, virtual reality, and virtual worlds and their impact on the future of our world.

Q: The video game in Deadwave feels so real. What inspired you to come up with a video game that includes zombies, avatars fighting to the death, and a host of abandoned locations?

A: Deadwave for me is a culmination of all my favorite games into one. I’ve always loved sports, and used to play basketball and baseball for many years so the virtual reality portion of the game allows them to compete using the motion of their entire bodies just as an athlete would.

Zombies for me are something that I have also always loved. Some of my favorite video games are Tell Tale’s The Walking Dead and State of Decay which both feature zombies and for me it was just natural to incorporate it into the game. The battle royale portion of the game certainly draws inspiration from Fortnite and Apex Legends, but my original fascination with the concept actually comes from my love for The Hunger Games . And all the abandoned places present in the maps in the game represent one of my favorite hobbies of urban exploring. Going to abandoned mental hospitals, offices, movie theaters, and many other locations is one of my favorite hobbies and something that I have done for years and intend to continue to do for years to come.

Q: The relationship between Sam and his father is central in Deadwave . What made you choose to highlight this?

A: Throughout the entirety of the Conspiracy Chronicles my goal is to explore the bonds between men and boys at a deeper level. I feel that the mental health of men and the relationships we have is often understated or left unnoted in literature and popular culture. With Deadwave specifically, I seek to show the pressure that many young boys feel to live up to their father’s expectations, and likewise the often crushing pressure their father’s place upon their own children. I would be lying if I said that I didn’t draw some inspiration from my own relationship with my father. Yet, he isn’t strict and abusive like James [Sam’s dad] is in Deadwave, which I am thankful for (many father’s I know are to their children and spouses though).

However, the view Sam has of his father, of being this unbelievable man who he idolizes is similar to how I viewed my father. But when Sam finds out the truth about his father, and sees his darker side, he finally sees that his father isn’t this unbelievable guy and he begins to have a love-hate relationship with him. The arc of their relationship continues, and I won’t explain anything further just to not give too much away, but there is a deeper message about all the relationships present in Deadwave, and the subsequent books in the series, and it really needs to be read to be fully understood.

Q: Riva, a character Sam grows very close to in Deadwave, is the only top Deadwave player in the world that is a girl. Why did you choose to have the world of Deadwave dominated by men?

A: I did this as an indictment of both the current professional esports world and the sports world at large. Right now almost all of the top video game streamers and most well known athletes in the world are men. Men are paid much more than women and receive more fame for equal work. The world of Deadwave is still dominated by men because, frankly, I don’t see this changing anytime soon (I really hope it improves!), but also because it allowed me to highlight the downsides to a male dominated world.

However, Riva is an anomaly. She is better than all the boys competing in Deadwave and has more fame and money than all of them. She to me is a fictional example of what I hope one day is a living example of a woman, and a woman of color at that, absolutely dominating in a world that she isn’t even “supposed” to be in. Whether this happens in politics, sports, or business I hope that one day both young boys and young girls can idolize women for having great success in a playground built by the boys. I actually think this will happen in the very near future, and I know that tens of millions of women are capable of this, if they were just given equal opportunity in a world full of misogyny.

Riva in my eyes symbolizes the strength millions of women are capable if given the opportunity, and due to the democratizing effects of the internet just a change in public perception is all it might take.

Q: The unreleased technology Life Pods in Deadwave allows people to live in virtual worlds forever. Do you foresee a similar technology coming to light in just fifteen years as described in Deadwave?

A: I certainly do. I don’t know about in the next fifteen years, but I think with things like the Blue Brain Project that seeks to map our brains and the rise of quantum computing, at some point in the near future we will have the capability of uploading our minds to computers and living in virtual worlds. When this happens I have no clue how humanity responds and this question is at the core of the conflict in the Conspiracy Chronicles, and as you will come to see, yeah… lots of stuff goes down.

I won’t say that I foresee our future headed the same way it is in the Conspiracy Chronicles but given the way corporate America is set up, and the fact that the issues of wealth inequality and climate change continue to grow, I picture some negative effects coming to rise from such a technology. Deadwave is just the beginning of a larger narrative that I hope serves as a thrilling and entertaining warning to reform our current world so that we can maximize the positive implications of technologies similar to Life Pods and reduce the negative implications as much as possible.

Q: Deadwave is your fourth published novel. What have you learned from your prior books?

A: Like many authors, I have learned from my mistakes, and I think as long as I am alive I will continue to refine my work and improve my ability as a storyteller. I really learned from my first series how to create a story people emotionally care about from the beginning, craft more likable characters, and hone my narrative skills in a way that is not too introspective and focuses more on what the characters do versus what they are thinking.

Q: How old are you at the time of writing Deadwave?

A: I was 17 years old while writing and publishing that novel, and at the time of writing this I am still 17 years old.

Q: What encouraged you to pursue writing in a relatively early stage of your life?

A: For me age isn’t really a factor in anything. What allows someone to tell a great story in my mind is the stories and experiences the writer has experienced in their lifetime. Although I may not have as much stories to share as some others who have more years on their belt than me, I have experienced the ups and downs in life, experienced pure pain and true joy, and from my wildest moments to my most mundane ones I have always maintained an acute self-awareness that has allowed me to develop my world view and a deep set of experiences to build off when crafting my stories.

Q: Since you are still a teenager, are you in high school?

A: I just graduated highschool this past June and am currently amidst a gap year from my education. I live in the United States, specifically Charleston, South Carolina, so after finishing twelfth grade the “normal” thing to do is either to get a job or increasingly to go to college. I don’t feel that this path is right for me though, and if I’m being honest I’m not sure exactly what is. I just know I love storytelling, and know that this is what I want to do for the foreseeable future and maybe even the rest of my life. As such, I decided to take a gap year from my education to pursue writing full time and really get to see what being an author is like day in and day out, and also use this opportunity to expand my desire to storytell into different mediums such as Youtube.

Q: Share with us three things about your books (not spoilers) that most don’t know.

A: The abandoned places they go to in the video game in Deadwave are based off abandoned places I have been to in real life. The character James in Deadwave (his backstory will be fleshed out in later novels) is inspired from my old dream to be a nanoengineer and develop nanorobots. The concept behind Control Freakz was inspired by the book Radical Abundance by Eric Drexler and the only reason I even got interested in the book was by being introduced to nerdy topics by the Youtube channel SciShow run by Hank Green.

Q: What writers have you always looked up to?

A: Dang, I could list so much right here. I’ll keep this to my top two. Alexandra Bracken is someone that I admire. She is the first author I met in person about four years ago at a book signing at YALL Fest in Charleston. She was so sweet and personable and to really get to meet an author for the first time made me think about what it would be like to be in her shoes. Of course I also loved her books, especially the Darkest Minds Series and they still stand as my favorite YA Dystopian books of all time which is the genre that my first book series, Control Freakz, falls under. My favorite writer of all time though is by and far Stephen King. I love the darker vibe to most of his thrillers, and how he incorporates science fiction and fantasy elements into the present day world. He is really a pioneer in transrealism literature, and that is a genre in which I hope to make inroads into myself one day in the near future. He also creates characters that are absolutely iconic, and for that reason alone I think he is the best American writer of our time and someone who I admire greatly.

Q: What can we expect from you in the future?

A: A lot. Without getting ahead of myself, I will say that I am in the process of trying to create a larger universe with my first two series. At the moment I have three more series and two standalone novels planned in the same world as the Conspiracy Chronicles that I call Future Realities Inked. One is set in the 2060s and another is a steampunk novel set in the 1980s (not a traditional steampunk novel but the kind of steampunk that Stranger Things has some elements of). I plan to experiment with the genres I write in and the style of the narratives but the core of my writing style will always be there. I also will be releasing seven books during my gap year, and continuing to refine my video making ability which is a medium I will look to use to tell stories and share my adventures in the near future.

Q: Where can we find more about you and your books?

A: The best place to go is to my website at www.mevansinked.com. There you can find my Instagram ( @mevansinked ) and Youtube Channel where I share my insight on the world, futurist topics, and of course tell my own story in regards to my gap year. Also, I have links to all my books on my website, along with my store where you can purchase signed books directly from me. On my website you will also find my newsletter where I share the most up to date information on my books, events, and future releases, along with exclusive videos from me guiding you on my mission to live boundlessly and help others to do so as well.

Q: I want to read Deadwave! Where can I find it?

A: You can always go to the library on my website where you can find links to everywhere it is sold including access to my online store where you can purchase signed copies directly from me: https://mevansinked.com/book/deadwave/

About Author

Suzanne lives in Middlesex, England with her hugely encouraging husband and two children.

She wrote her first novel at the age of twelve. She discovered the fantasy genre in her late teens and has never looked back. Giving up work to raise a family gave her the impetus to take her attempts at novel writing beyond the first draft, and she is lucky enough to have a husband who supports her dream – even if he does occasionally hint that she might think about getting a proper job one day.

Suzanne loves gardening and has a Hebe (shrub) fetish. She enjoys cooking with ingredients from the garden, and regularly feeds unsuspecting guests vegetable-based cakes.

She collects books, loves going for walks and picnics with the children and sharing with them her love of nature and photography.

Suzanne is interested in history and enjoys wandering around castles. But most of all she likes to escape with a great film, or soak in a hot bubble bath with an ice cream and a book.

My Review

There isn’t really much I can say about this book that I haven’t said in the review of the previous one, because honestly I liked it just as much as the first book. But let me tell some things.

Since it’s a series, the flow kept going, with the same pace, with some character development and, of course, the plot continues to be great. Then again, it is the following book and things are intertwined and it got interesting even more with some major scenes and characters that surprised me a bit.

I read this book immediately after book one, so I was still in the mind frame and still connected to the characters, the storyline and the world that was portrayed in this second novel.

I’m still very intrigued by the magical aspect of this fantasy world and I do love to figure things out and learn about the rule (societal, cultural and magical) when dealing with a fantasy genre novel. So it’s always good when the author gives the readers some bits and pieces of information as then go deep into the series or world building. In that sense, this novel brings some extra stuff to us.

I still very interested by the characters and to learn more about them because, although it’s a fantasy series, it doesn’t just deals with the magical aspect of this fictional time and space. Because characters are what move the plot and they are the ones that truly change things and act upon their motivations, dreams and aspirations, fear and anger, we have emotions. And that’s something that I liked, the fact that all human problems, qualities and defaults make an appearance. It wouldn’t sound real to me if it wasn’t the case. That’s also why we are seeing some character development, which is amazing.

Over all, love the book. If you like fantasy novels, you should check this out.

“The Lost Sentinel” Review

Hello Friends!

I know I have been pretty AWOL, but let’s hope that I will be able to get back to a routine because my mind has been crazy and I haven’t been sleeping well, plus I’m always away from my computer. Nevertheless, thankfully I have been reading a lot, and I have a kit if reviews to still do. And this is one of them, part of a blog tour event.

[P. S – for some damn reason the post didn’t published yesterday. I have no idea why it happened again. I apologise to the author and Rachel.]

The Lost Sentinel“, written by Suzanne Rogerson, is the first book in the Silent Sea Chronicles, a YA/Adult Fantasy series. This book was published on 16th June 2017.

I will be posting my review of book two “The Sentinel’s Reign” on 29th June, so if you are curious about this series, stay tune for that review too.

I want to thank Rachel, at Rachel’s Random Resources, and Suzanne Rogerson for the eCopy of this book and for allowing me to join in the fun and being a part of the blog tour with my honest review of the book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Synopsis

THE LOST SENTINEL COVERThe magical island of Kalaya is dying, along with its Sentinel.

My Review

This isn’t the first book I have read of Suzanne Rogerson, but it is the start of a series and I was quite excited about this. In this book we get transported to Kalaya and a magical world that will make the reader want to read more and discover what the characters will do, and how the story will develop.

The fact that the book is in the third person POV made it wonderfull for me because I felt like it was easier to connect with all the characters and understand their thoughts and feelings, and if it were in the first person POV and changing character’s POVs with each chapter of scene the flow would feel fragmented to me. So I loved that it was so open and the pace was flow sometime and quick in others so I could get the full experience of this journey.

Speaking of the characters. When we first met Tei, and we are introduced to the world and the time period in this book, I was very curious. So Tei is one of my favorite characters, not only because she was the first one I connected with, but also because of her personality and background story.

And of course we meet other characters that take an important part in the plot and that I hope I can see even more growth in terms of their characteristics and personality and attitudes. Then again this is book one, of course things will change and more information will be revealed, that’s one thing I’m excited about in terms of the characters.

The fun thing about reading a series, is that everything changes as time goes by and with each book more question and answers we have. As we gradually turn the pages and discover a new key character, scene or question that will make every sense once it’s time. But one things I absolutely loved, besides the realism that some characters had, was the world building.

This fictional fantasy world was so vivid in my mind thanks to all the descriptions. Actually the all book was great for so many reasons, including the descriptions. All the details and the interesting characters and world made it possible for me not only reading this book almost in one sitting, but also, as soon as I was done with it to jump right into the second book. I was so excited to learn more and to see what was going to happen next that I couldn’t resist.

Overall, this is a fantastic adventurous, magical and drama fueled first novel, that took me on a journey and made me wish I could just visit Kalaya once for a bit, just to see the land and learn about the history by being there. So if you have read Suzanne Rogerson’s other book “Visions of Zarua”, you may like this book to, so check it out.

Guest Post “Writing History for Young Adults”, by Rina Z. Neiman

Hello Friends!

I hope you are having an amazing Friday and I hope you have a good weekend. Today I bring you a guest post as part of a blog tour.

Enjoy what she has to say.

Are you interested in writing history for young adults? If you are, you will absolutely want to visit Jess’ blog today where author Rina Z. Neiman talks about writing history for young adults and what grabs them and what loses them.

I remember the first time I read historical fiction as a young adult. The book was Michael Shaara’s The Killer Angels set during the Civil War, a topic that reminded me of a boring high school history class. But a friend couldn’t stop raving about the book and convinced me to give it a try.

Shaara’s story transported me into another world. The gruesome fighting on battlefields with vaguely familiar names were brought into sharp focus by the author’s descriptive prose. The characters were strong, the story lines interesting, and most importantly, the time period felt real. Suddenly, history was compelling and I was learning a lot to boot. I was hooked on historical fiction.

It’s been years since I first read that book, but the feeling of reading a living, breathing history stayed with me. When I decided to write my own historical novel, Born Under Fire, my goal was to bring to life the birth of the State of Israel in the way Shaara’s novel deepened my understanding for the Civil War.

The main character in Born Under Fire, Shula, is based on my mother. Through Shula we experience not only pivotal moments in the historical timeline, but her feelings, emotions and reactions to these events. Based on my experience, I knew I needed to avoid the history-lesson-voice and concentrate on the human dramas in each event.

An example of this is the dramatization the United Nations vote on the partition plan in 1947. Reading the transcript of this historic meeting, it was clear that I had to find a way to make this event, (which includes an extremely long roll call vote), engaging and interesting.

During my research, I learned that most everyone in Tel Aviv listened to the live broadcast on their radios that night. I created a scene where Shula’s extended family gathers in her apartment to listen to the vote. There is a buzz in the air and Shula sees the same scene repeated in every window on her street. Her 10-year-old brother holds a hand-drawn chart and stands ready with the new pen he bought for the tally. While the roll is called, family members interject and interrupt the proceedings, which keeps the action moving and the suspense building.

YA readers of historical fiction are looking for good stories with believable and relatable characters. Avoid rote repetition of facts and figures and instead opt for Interesting scenarios as a way to pass on information to the characters, and in turn, the readers.

My Review

P1070071Compared to some other genres, I haven’t read as many YA novels as some other readers, but I’m trying to change that, because I’m trying to get out of my comfort zone and read other genres. That been said, when I got the opportunity to read this book, I jumped in. The synopsis made me wonder about the plot, the characters and how everything would end up.

The book follows a teenager girl called Silver Abelli, as she deals with daily stuff, as well as the unexpected turns that life brings, plus all the perks of being part of her family. I loved that this novel shows the ups and downs of life, from divorce and illness to simply stay true to who you are and being independent.

I like the characters in an over all, because of all the interactions and the relationships between them. Silver was an awesome character, and it was fun reading because of how she stand out and her personality. She was different and I loved that.

P1060635The plot was interesting and the all book ended up feeling real to me because of all the subjects that are talked about  in the novel. I can understand the divorce aspect from the point of view of the couple’s child, but I also know what illness (cancer, tumors, chronic illness,…) does not only to the person that is ill, as well as the family members and friends. The fact that this book talks about both topics and leaves things open to discussion, and the reader wondering and feeling like part of the family and the life described in the storyline… It all connected with me.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. And it was exciting in a way, thought provoking in others, and in the end, it made me enjoy this journey with the characters, going through the drama, excitement that is life.

“Angels Can’t Swim” Review

Hello Friends!

Today I bring you my review of a coming-of-age novella called “Angels Can’t Swim“, written by Alexandra McCann, published on June 17, 2018.

I red this book last year, and it’s one of those I have on the list to review this year. So here it is! I’m sorry it took a while.

Thank you Alexandra McCann for the eCopy of your book so I could experience this journey. All the opinions and thoughts are my own honest review.

Synopsis

40606420Angels Can’t Swim is an original, honest coming-of-age novella that examines what goes on behind the scenes for three college swimmers. Jenna, Maggie, and Eden are each incredibly different in their personalities and struggles, yet under pressure they must come together in this compelling story of friendship and what it means to be a good teammate. While balancing the pressures of swimming at a high level and also dealing with the realities of college life, the three young women grow immensely as individual people and in their bonds with each other. In portraying these bonds, the novella tackles important issues such as eating disorders and what it means to be an LGBTQ young person. This intense, unforgettable novella is a must-read for young adults, college students, and all people who wish to take a glimpse into a world not often seen.

My Review

This interesting, unique and thought provoking novel follows three young women whose lives are intertwine, and as we read about them we are taken on a emotional journey, watching them deal with all the obstacles and figuring things out. That been said, I was quite curious from the very beginning, feeling empathy to the characters and feeling as if I was their friend.

Maggie, Eden and Jenna are their names. With passion for swimming and issues that will take them on a rollercoaster ride, full of twists and turns, combined with drama, friendship and family relationships that can be as crazy as the real deal. So I liked that aspect of the book, the sense of reality in the book.

Although swimming is an important element in this coming-of-age story, it’s so much more that the sport and the characters love for it. Truly, it is about life, a side of life that some people may have not read or know much about, so I was excited about the chance to read each page and enter this storyline and go on a ride with the characters. Coming-of-age book always makes me reflect of life and this one certainly did that for me.

Overall, it was an amazing book that allowed me to think about the struggles a lot of people have to deal with, plus, it allowed me to reflect on my own personal life and all the interactions I have with people, as well as think about what my friends and family have to deal with. Because sometimes we don’t really think about other members in our society, and we don’t really listen to them, and by not doing it, we ended up not helping when we could have.

It is a short novel, so it was a quick, but powerful and emotional, read. So I think more people should give it a chance and read this book, following those tree characters and think for themselves about the topics expressed in this novel.

Author Bio

My love for writing began at a very young age–way before I could even type on a keyboard. I was always writing short stories and poems with a fan club of one (my mom.) I never stopped writing, but I don’t think I believed in myself enough to actually pursue it as a career.

When I enrolled in college, I took as many creative writing classes as they offered, and ended up graduating with a degree in photography and minoring in English.

I enjoy art in all its forms, but writing has always been my first love. Even when I was pursuing other careers, writing was always my go-to comfort. I later became an animal obedience instructor and met a children’s author through my dog training. She helped me get my foot through the door, so to speak, and I haven’t turned back since.

During the day, I manage an FBO at my local hometown airport, and by night, I dive into my writing with my husband and my four-legged children by my side.

My Review

Paranormal is one of the genres I love to read and write, so when I saw this book and read the blurb I was very curious and had to join in the blog tour. Witchcraft and magic, werewolves, mystery, murder and romance, a lot of elements in this book that complemented well the plot and setting, especially with a great group of characters.

The story flows around Quinn, the female main character, a witch that is trying to deal with her powers, and that made her real and I could empathize with her, which was great. She’s a good student, she lost her mom, she has a best friend… I liked her a lot, she’s part of the supernatural community and she’s just a teenager too and that speaks to my inner woman and connects to the memories of the teenage Jess that loved Paranormal romance novels and would connected with everything related to magic. Then, of course a guy appears. That’s when things start to get really, really interesting.

As we keep reading the book we get pulled into this paranormal world and a battle between good and evil, and of course it has that aspect of “connecting with our heritage and who we are”. There are a lot of elements in this story that I loved and does are just two of them. Others were: the well written characters that felt real and dynamic, and of course their interaction with each other and their pasts; the storytelling and the flow of the novel, that had action and suspense moments, as well as the unfolding of new information.

I won’t say more or talk about the specifics of the plot because I seriously want you guys to enjoy the story and all it’s mysteries, plus it’s the first book in a series, it wouldn’t be much fun if I would tell you secrets of this novel that would spoil the magic. Let’s just say that it has action scene as much as mystery, suspense and romance ones.

Overall, loved it. I can’t wait to know what else this series is going to bring us and what more information us, readers, can uncover in this paranormal world.

It was the kind of book that would attract my attention no matter if it’s now or years from now because I have always had a soft spot for this kind of genre and plot. So I hope you guys can join this journey and follow Quinn as she discovers herself gains confidence in her magical abilities and joins a group of awesome people to accomplish a goal.
