My Review

First of all, I’m very happy to be back to reviewing, specially with a sweet second chance romance.

Although this book is part of a series (you can learn about book one “Summer in Bellbird Bay” and book two “Coming Home to Bellbird Bay” in those links), this story can be followed easily since it’s a standalone. I do have to say, though, that I will be getting the previous books in the future so that I can learn more about the Bellbird Bay community and the characters I was introduced to.

That been said, let’s get to this third book.

“Starting Over in Bellbird Bay” follows Cleo Johansen after she moved with her daughter to Bellbird Bay, after her husband passed away. In a new adventure, looking for a second chance to live her life, to start making new memories. We also get to know Will Rankin, former surf champion, owner of the local surf school and widow.

Both Will and Cleo are parents, and despite the fact that I’m not, I could still understand their love for their children and the importance of family. That love and connection could also be seen in the community and their interactions. Will and Cleo have a group of friends, they have a support system, that starts with Owen and Hannah and ends in all the people around them that also love them.

Another thing I enjoyed was the drama, with the Facebook message Hannah receives to the harassment Will is getting from someone he once gave a few surf classes. It added moments of tension and opens the possibility for more interactions and opportunities to learn about the characters.

And of course, we can’t forget the romance. Usually, I read romance books that have younger characters, with ages closer to my own, or a bit older, but this couple brings a new type of books that I really need to explore more about. I need to read stories about later in life love and second chances. Will and Cleo definitely have a second chance to find love after losing their partners, and it all starts with some friends’ idea of Will and Cleo pretending to be in a relationship. Which I loved, by the way.

Overall, it was a fun, sweet and interesting book. It had a mature group of characters that made me laugh and enjoy each moment of their interactions. It had a beautiful scenery, and as someone that lives close by the central coast of Portugal, having a connection with the beach and all its beauty is always a plus, even if it’s in another country and even continent, or fictional place.

My Review

Second chances romances can be such lovely stories, and there are actually one of my favorites. So I was quite excited about this romance.

Jamie and Whit… two character that made me fall in love with them with each page. Because there were secrets around them and within them, I was taken on a journey of uncovering who they were and what the background was. By doing so, I ended up connecting with them. Which is always something I look forward to.

The amazing thing about second chance romance is that there is a lot to work on, for the characters and between them. They know each other, but things have to be resolved. Problems, misunderstanding, secrets, changes,… whatever it is, they have to come to terms with it, talk about it and learn who they are now. That can be funny at time, or emotional at others, but it’s always interesting to read about the Main Characters interactions.

That was what the author gave me in this book. A sweet, emotional and amazing book about two people that got back together and are now discovering the changes that happened. Their relationship is different from before and that take us on a different path.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. I enjoyed the plot, and the characters were perfect for it. I enjoyed the pace in the storytelling, and I found myself relaxing in bed while reading, forgetting the time.

About the Author

Rachael Stewart Author Photo

Rachael Stewart adores conjuring up stories for the readers of Harlequin Mills & Boon and Deep Desires Press, with tales varying from the heartwarmingly romantic to the wildly erotic.

She’s been writing since she could put pen to paper as the stacks of scrawled on A4 sheets in her loft will attest to, and the lovingly bound short stories that her father would run off at work and proudly share out with his colleagues. Thinking it was a pipe dream to be published one day, she pursued a sensible career in business but she was really play-acting, achieving the appropriate degree and spending many years in the corporate world where she never truly belonged. Always happiest when she was sat at her laptop in the quiet hours tapping out a story or two. And so here she is, a published author, her full-time pleasure, a dream come true.

A Welsh lass at heart, she now lives in Yorkshire with her husband and three children, and if she’s not glued to her laptop, she’s wrapped up in them or enjoying the great outdoors seeking out inspiration.

My Review

This isn’t the first novel I’ve read of Rachael Stewart and since that first book I read, I have been excited with each new novel that she writes. “Losing Control” is a contemporary romance and it has explicit sex scenes, which I’m 100% fine with it, it’s part of life and part of the story.

In this novel we follow Cain and Alexa, in a second chance love story that will not only create sparks, but it will light up our minds with the interactions between them. Cain is back home and Alexa already dealing with the family business.

There is something interesting about reading a book that present us with a second chance romance. There is a backstory between the MCs and that is always interesting to see. I loved how we got to learn more about the past, and see how they reacted to each other now. The development of the characters and their relationship, made sense to me.

Overall, I enjoyed it. It was a good (and hot) summer read that made me sigh, smile and enjoy the journey with all the obstacles and emotional moments. Just what I have come to love in Rachael Stewart’s novels.

My Review

This isn’t the first book written by Adriana Locke that I have read, but it’s the first in a brand-new series, so I was quite excited to read this book. Especially since this is a second chance romance and I have a weak spot for books like that, and then add it that it also has a single parent… I was sold on the all novel and I knew I would love it. And I did.

In this book the reader get to met Dane Madden, a single father, and Neely Kimber. As I got to read more about Dane and Neely, I got more into the all storyline. The characters, not just the main ones, were awesome, and I’m quite excited to read more about the all town and every novel that will be out in this series.

In this novel, Dane Madden and Neely Kimber were high school sweethearts, but life takes unexpected turns and hearts were broken, misunderstandings caused problems, then once again life takes another turn and lends Dane and Neely on a new exciting path in their lives, by putting them together.

And, of course, things get interesting, because I got to see the characters development and the new relationship that starts growing between them. Then there is Dane’s daughter Mia, and the interactions with her were the cutest and added an even more sense of reality to the story.

Every little element in this story helped with the plot and the growth of the characters’ personality and relationship. And the reasons for everything that happen made the novel feel real and connected with me because of how everything was described and how understandable their reactions were.

Overall, it was a cute and fun romance novel and I can’t wait for the next one so I can keep following and learning about Dogwood Lane and the residents of that small town. So, if you like second chances novels that happen in a small town, I recommend you to check out this book.

38108367Hadley Jacobs is over Machlan Gibson.

Sure, she’ll always be a little weak to the dimple in his right cheek and the way his five o’clock shadow makes him ruggedly handsome. But that’s not enough to cover every other thing about him because they all drive her nuts. Like how he’s won’t admit he’s wrong even when he knows it and how he drives his stupid car a million miles an hour on wet asphalt. As she rolls back into town and takes a seat at Crave, she won’t take the bait. She’s over him. Mostly.

Machlan isn’t over her.

It’s not because he hasn’t tried. He reminds himself over and over that she’s not the girl for him. After all, she drives him insane with her sassy attitude and the way she calls him out on everything. She beats him at poker, even though she doesn’t know the difference between a straight and a flush, and when she looks at him with her bright, blue eyes, it’s unnerving. When she climbs onto that bar stool and orders a drink, he puts it in front of her and ignores the sparkle in her eyes.  He’s not over her, but she won’t know that.

But she does know that. And he knows she’s not as over him as she’s pretending to be. When life forces their hand this time, there’s more on the line than a pile of poker chips. It’s their forever.

Crave is a standalone romance in a new small town, blue-collar series from USA Today bestselling author Adriana Locke. Join readers everywhere as they fall in love with the delicious Gibson Boys.

My Review

I love series that follow families, because I have a big family so I tend to relate to it. In this case, this is the third book in the series and I haven’t read the others, so some things were a bit outside of my understanding, but that doesn’t mean it was the book’s fault, I’m the one that haven’t read the other books yet. Anyway, now that I have read this one I’m curious to know more about the other Gibson Boys and the all storyline of the series, previous to this book.

That been said, I still loved the book. I loved that this is a second chance romance story, because I always have a soft spot for them. Especially when they are well done. And this book was a passionate novel, lot’s of drama and problems that needed to be solved, so that kept me wondering and cheering for the characters, but despite that it still had emotion and it truly captivated my attention.

Since it was a second chance story, we get to unfold the past as we read the book and the development of the love story was much more enjoyable because I really wanted them to be happy. And as a romantic, I like to believe that sometimes love survives time and pain.

The characters were fun to get to met. Machlan (great name, by the way) was an intriguing character to me. He hold Hadley at arms length even despite his love for her, and that made me wonder what was really going on. As I got to read more about him and started to understand him more, even thought I didn’t agree with him sometimes. Then there is Hadley, a courageous, fun, strong, beautiful and intelligent woman that really loves with all her heart.

Reading about their struggles, the relationship developing and all the sweet or even the sexy moments made me enjoy the book, and those are just some of the reasons I recommend this book. But if you haven’t read the other books in the series, go get them. If they are as good as this one, then you are going to love the series. Plus… Who doesn’t love to read about handsome brothers and their loved ones?

“Take Me in the Night” Review

Hello Friends!

I hope you are having a great Friday! Here in Portugal it’s the Republic Day (Implantação da República), since in 5th October 1910 there was a revolution that ended the Monarchy in Portugal and it was the beginning of the first Portuguese Republic. So… It’s a holiday!

And since it’s almost weekend… What are your plans? I will be writing more, and I have some reviews (part of blog tours, and not) that I have to do because I’m behind schedule in some of them.

Anyway, I have a review for you guys right now! And another that is coming up in a couple of minutes too.

Take Me in the Night” is a Contemporary Romance written by R. L. Kenderson and it’s the first book I read of this author.

I want to thank the author R. L. Kenderson for this free copy of the book via Booksprout, that I’m voluntarily writing an honest review about.

Blurb

First, he took my heart. 41543386

It started in high school. I was his girlfriend…he was the love of my life.

We had plans for after graduation. We were going to escape—he from his family’s reputation and me from my father’s control.

But all that changed the summer before college. Charged with a crime he hadn’t committed, he was whisked away from life, never to be heard from again.

Then, he takes my body.

Twelve years later, he’s back. He’s bigger, he’s tougher, and he’s harder around the edges. He’s no longer the boy I fell in love with.

But I’m no longer the girl who gave him her heart.

Everything’s changed between us. Anger, resentment, and bitterness have replaced happiness, love, and trust.

Except for when darkness falls. That’s when he comes to me at night, taking what is still his.

Now, he’s going to take my soul.

When the lines between our old love and our new hate begin to blur, I know that, this time, I might not survive if he leaves.

About Author

P1060859R.L. Kenderson is two best friends writing under one name.

Renae always loved reading and in third grade wrote her first poem where she learned she might have a knack for this writing thing. Lara remembers sneaking her grandmother’s Harlequin novels when she was probably too young to be reading them, and since then she knew she wanted to write her own.

When they met in college, they bonded over their love of reading and the TV show Charmed. What really spiced up their friendship was when Lara introduced Renae to romance novels. When they discovered their first vampire romance, they knew there would always be a special place in their hearts for paranormal romance. After being unable to find certain storylines and characteristics they wanted to read about in the hundreds of books they consumed, they decided to write their own.

One lives in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and the other in the Kansas City area where they’re a sonographer/stay-at-home mom/wife and pharmacist/mother by day and a sexy author by night. They communicate through phone, email, and whole lot of messaging.

My Review

P1060845This is the first book I’m reading of this duo under one name, but I liked it a lot. Let me tell you why. First the blurb, title and cover captivated my attention, plus the idea that this would be a second chance romance was what really sold me to the book. I love that type of plots, when they are done correctly, and this one was great.

Addison and Maddox… Two teenagers in love that didn’t care about the differences in their lives and just wanted to be together and love one another. Then things take a turn and they are separated, and for 12 years they didn’t see each other, until Maddox is back in town.

P1060860Maddox is a retired SEAL that is looking forward to a quieter life and Addison is a lawyer. And as I got to see them reconnect and fall in love again, I found myself invested in the story, I really wanted to know what would happened next plus there was some mystery that I wanted to figure out, especially about Maddox’s past.

This book had a great pace that gave every important moment the spotlight it deserves, so it had some intense rollercoaster with the mystery, the lies and the misunderstandings, and there was all the romance that felt natural once they start to let go of the resistance and just gave in to the chemistry that was between them.

P1060861So the there was intensity and playfulness. There was mystery and sweetness. I liked that contrast. I liked that there wasn’t always romance, there was drama and mystery. There was a good balance that made even their adorable banter funny, and it made the tension of the book and the storyline so much sense and feel natural and real.

Over all, this was an amazing story about two strong-headed people that got a second change to be together and love each other more than the first time around, because they were now mature, and their past made them who they are and that just upped the chemistry and description that the author gave us.

My Review

P1060796So, this is the first book I’m reading of Catherine’s, although it’s not the first one I have on my hands. I have the second book in this series and will be reading it as soon as I can. Anyway, from what I know of most historical romances from the lovely and awesome ladies of The Unlaced Historical Romance Group, I knew I would love this one and that it would be okay for me to read it without reading the other two before.

This books talks about a second chance love, in some ways. And that type of trope is one of my favorites because it always leaves me hopefully. Lady Olivia was 18 years old when when the man she loved crushed her heart when he told her he was going to Australian. And that heartbreak made her close herself off from men so she wouldn’t be hurt again. Now four years later he’s back.

P1060797That means they have a second chance to get the love going. Ah! And doesn’t that sounds like a fun idea for a historical romance?! Of course, things aren’t easy. There is always drama, unexpected things and the sexual tension to make us all sigh for all the sweet, sexy and “Oh my Goodness!” moments between them.

And Catherine knows just how to takes us on a journey. I love historical romances because of that. When the author is a master on what she/he writes, the story will take us to places we can only dream about. And Catherine’s characters and all the descriptions of places, moments and thoughts are just some of the things I loved about this book.

P1060799I also love that I could relate to Olivia. We are only two years apart (she’s 22 and I will be 24 in some days) and we have both be through heartbreaks that made us stay clear of men. I just hope I life gets to turn out as lovely as hers, even with all the twist and turns and uncertainties in the beginning, I just I hope I get to love and be love like Olivia loves and is loved by Jem.

I won’t say much more about the book because I really don’t want to give spoilers accidentally, but I so recommend this book! I loved it and I really need to read the other book I have of Catherine’s, and get the first one too.

Blurb

t,oI gave him my body and made him promise not to tell.

He was a nerd… shy and submissive.

And I treated him like the chew toy that he was.

Brenton Fox is now back in my life.

But he isn’t that scrawny little dork anymore.

He’s gotten cocky. He’s gotten ripped. He’s gotten RICH.

And he wants revenge. He wants to make me hurt.

A part of me wants to see him try.

My body aches for it. My heart bleeds for it.

But now with my life in danger…

Brenton is no longer my only enemy.

Instead, he might just be my only savior.

My Review

P1060681This is my first Summer Brooks’ book and I quite liked it. In this book we meet Victoria Mills and Brenton Fox in a second change romance with dual POV, that made the book feel complete since we had the chance to understand their feelings and thoughts.

With great chemistry between them and that touch of gray area aspect in the story with what was happen with Luthor and MossCorp… It made the book refreshing and had a good quick pace, perfect for a warm morning (that’s when I read the book and it made my morning so much better).

P1060685I loved that we got to discover, chapter after chapter, what happened in the past between them, because that helped me connect with both Vicky and Brenton and understand their actions and feeling much better. Plus, how doesn’t love a good second change romance?

I liked Brenton more than Vicky as a character. Although she was a strong woman that got into some trouble because of some decisions she made, she’s trying to make them better. Nevertheless… Who can resist a Bad-Boy? Brenton is a bit of a bad-boy and I loved that about him. I also loved how he could be sweet to her, and protective. And of course every time they were together was so exciting. The sexy scenes and moments were such a plus, especially since they were hot.P1060684

And then the book ends like that. I was quite satisfied with it, actually. It was to the point and it made me smile and that’s really the only thing that I ask for in a book, to make me smile from happiness for the characters and the story.
