My Review

This isn’t the first novel I have read of the genre (historical romances in a regency setting) nor is it my first Natalie Kleinman’s book. And it was my honor to read and review this story.

Has we follow Patience Worthington, after her life turns upside down when her father – the Reverend in the countryside – dies, we go on a journey of discovery and it’s almost felt like I was her companion, trying to willed her to a good path and going through the journey no matter what.

Then there is Lord Gideon, the handsome new Viscount, that decides to help out Patience by offering her a place to stay. That’s what family does, right?

But things don’t always go well, and that dynamic and excitement of each interaction between the characters, specially Patience and Gideon, was just amazing and got me going.

Natalie Kleinman did a beautiful job in grabbing my attention with the strong personality that Patience had and how the setting took me to a time and place, with some set of rules that are different from what we are used to, and yet, I could understand the characters motivations, and the social dynamics.

I have always enjoyed this author’s writing and creativity with her plots and characters. This book had those elements and I really had a good time in my breaks at work, exactly what I needed it.

My Review

Historical romance is a genre I love, as you all that follow my reviews may know by now. Regency was how I started and I was very curious about Natalie Kleinman’s book.

In this novel we follow Prudence and Jack, two people that know one another which made the story touching and interesting. As I read the story, knowing already – thanks to the synopsis – some elements of the plot, I wonder how Prudence and Jack met, and how life would get them back together.

The tittle is the essence of the book, I could understand Prudence’s thoughts and action while grieving, an I understand how pride can many times be in the way of reconciliation. The story was emotional, but also dynamic, as it give us interesting character – main and secondary – and a good interaction in terms of social and personal contexts.

Overall, Natalie Kleinman did a briliant job, and I was not disappointed. With each page and the unfolding of the situation with Prudence’s father and then with Jack, as well as the journey she takes to her family’s house, but also a mental journey, I was captivated by every moment of reading this story. Just as I expected from this author’s work.

“How Not to Chaperon a Lady” Review

Hello Friends!

I know I have been away, September has been a complicated month for me. Thankfully I had books like the one I’m reviewing today that helped me out. This is one of my favorite subgenres in the Historical fiction genre: Regency romance. And it’s a book by one of my go-to authors.

How Not to Chaperon a Lady“, written by Virginia Heath, is a Historical Romance, in the Regency romance subgenre, the third book in The Talk of the Beau Monde series, published on 28th September 2021, by Mills & Boon.

I want to thank Rachel, at Rachel’s Random Resources, and Virginia Heath for the eCopy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

About the Author

Virginia Heath Photo

When Virginia Heath was a little girl it took her ages to fall asleep, so she made up stories in her head to help pass the time while she was staring at the ceiling. As she got older, the stories became more complicated, sometimes taking weeks to get to the happy ending. Then one day, she decided to embrace the insomnia and start writing them down. Despite that, it still takes her forever to fall asleep.

My Review

This is the third and final book in the series and we have yet another amazing novel full of romance, touch of humor and drama, and with an enemies to lovers troupe that I quite enjoy in historical romances.

As we follow Charity Brookes and Griffith Philpot, we go on a discovery of their personalities, background and dreams, and we also get to see all the sparks when they get together. They were different and yet it made so much sense seeing them together.

Charity is such a light character, one of those that makes me smile, that is brilliant and immediately captivated me, especially when she turns into a firecracker. Griff is much calmer, chivalrous, and a strong character that gave a balance to the interactions between him and Charity, making the chemistry fun to read.

Emotional, exciting and with a happy ending. “How Not to Chaperon a Lady” was fantastic and exactly what I need to read. Virginia Heath never disappoints me with her charming male characters and the connection I always feel for the female characters. This book wasn’t different, and having the enemies to lovers added the childhood connection was perfect.

Overall, I loved it and it was a good final book for the series.

My Review

There are a lot of subgenres in the historical romance that I enjoy, but regency was where I started and Catherine Tinley is quite amazing in it.

In this book we follow Jack Beresford, the Earl of Hawkenden, and Lady Cecily Thornhill in this journey. As we go through each chapter, uncovering their background, it was interesting. The characters were realistic and I could connect with them, since they appeared in the beginning to be a bit different from other characters, and in part that made me fascinated with uncovering their past.

Strong personalities, sweet moments and chemistry, mysteries to grab our attentions and a heartwarming story. I don’t want to give out much about the development of the plot and the characters interactions, but it was touching and I loved it.

Overall, I love the story. I really did. Catherine Tinley gave us a story that had all the elements I enjoy. From the friendship to the romance. From the drama to the trust it built.

My Review

If you have ever read Virginia Heath’s books you expect many things. One is amazing and relatable characters. The other is sassiness. Maybe sassy is not the right word, but there is this powerful element with some smirk in the mix, if that makes any sense. It’s this quality of the characters that makes me want to be their friends and sometimes it makes me want to be them.

This story follows Hope, and our lovely female MC is not the typical character one may read in a Historical Romance. Hope is not nobility, although her family is important in the high society class. And I loved that, because I could relate to her even more. Then there is our handsome Marquess next door, Lucius, Marquess of Thundersley.

Every time I read Virginia Heath’s books I have that need to grab a fan and just join the moment and alleviate the heat going through my skin. I loved the steamy interactions between Hope and Lucius, and I loved even more that they not only had the attraction going, they also had a growing friendship.

Another thing I loved about this book was Lucius’ modesty and honesty. I loved how he acted. I loved the refreshing elements in this book that made it so different from others I have read by the author. And I actually believe that so far, this is my favorite book/story so far.

Overall, I don’t even know what else to say. There is drama, there is romance, there is family and friendship, there is a more common element of the society. And if you don’t know Virginia Heath after all the reviews I have done, you should stop and go get this book.

My Review

Historical Romance is a genre I quite enjoy, and I have read many books in the Regency subgenre. Does that make me an expert? No, it does not. It just means I enjoy those kinds of books. And I do believe that Natalie Kleinman hit the right reader spot for me.

In this book we follow Sophie and Rufus. It was a light read and yet it had a good amount of mystery, drama, romance and the society interactions… all things I enjoy in a historical, just as much as I love to see the main characters fall in love during a different time period and having their journey have some ups and downs.

The characters were amazing and I had fun learning about them as much as understanding their interactions and actions. I loved Rufus family, I loved learning about Sophie’s background and see her development.

The fact that we end up learning about the society in London at the same time Sophie is discovering it for the first time, it was such a perfect touch. It is part of the development of the story and the characters, but it was also something that I hadn’t read in this particular way. Quite fun and refreshing. Sophie’s introduction to the society combined with the danger of her stepbrother approaching, and in the middle of it the discovery of independence, and the growth of friendships.

Overall, I quite enjoyed the book. Scandal, romance, mystery, secrets, drama, kindness and relationships. All we need in a historical romance.

My Review

This is the first book in a brand new series, and historical romance with an appealing cover, of course I was curious. The book sound very different from what I usually read in terms of this genre, at least that’s what caught my attention when I read the synopsis.

In this story we follow Scarlett and Ambrose, both fun characters to get to know more about, in terms of their background and their interactions with each other and the those around them. Scarlett is part of the Maidens of Mayhem and I kind of felt as I was a part of the group. Ambrose is the Duke of Aylesford. The combination was definitely excited.

As we follow the events of this novel, learning more about the society and all the crazy antics, I did see differences in comparison with other books, which I quite enjoyed. It was a breath of fresh air. And I was taken on a rollercoaster and it was a fascinating way of seeing another side of the society back then.

Overall, I enjoyed it and I can’t wait to see the news books to learn more about the upcoming main characters and whose Maiden of Mayhem we will follow next.

About the Author

Penny Hampson Author Photo

Penny Hampson writes mysteries, and because she has a passion for history, you’ll find her stories also reflect that. A Gentleman’s Promise, a traditional Regency romance, was Penny’s debut novel, which was shortly followed by more in the same genre. Penny also enjoys writing contemporary mysteries with a hint of the paranormal, because where do ghosts come from but the past?

Penny lives with her family in Oxfordshire, and when she is not writing, she enjoys reading, walking, swimming, and the odd gin and tonic (not all at the same time).

My Review

This is the beginning of a series, and I love series, especially those that are in the historical romance genre. This is also my first interaction with Penny Hampson’s writing and books. So I was surprised and delighted.

“A Gentleman’s Promise” follows Richard Lacey and Emma Smythe’s life, how they met and got together, and their relationship developed while so many other things were happening. I enjoyed their interactions and I enjoyed the secondary characters and how everything connected.

In terms of plot, I liked that there wasn’t just drama and romance, but also suspense. The mystery gave it an extra element to the story and it was interesting to see how thing unfolded and uncovering the information that was being given and how it all came together. It also mad the story exciting and the action moving.

Overall, I really liked this book. It had a good pace and had me going from beginning to end. I’m actually very curious about the following books in the series.

My Review

Am I surprised that I loved the plot and characters of this book? Actually, I am not. In this new book, Jenni Fletcher marvel us with her engaging characters, lovely moments and brilliant storytelling.

As we follow Beatrix and Quinton in this second chance at love, I couldn’t help myself, and ended up falling in love with the characters. Two characters that I could understand, that I could connect in some way, that made me feel a part of that time and that society.

Beatrix was lovely and Quin was just amazing. When they were together, the interactions… What can I say? It was interesting to read about the connection they had and the one they built. It was so enjoyable to see their relationship grow, their fears and past come to light, and their love becoming stronger.

I loved that it was a different kind of second chance story. I loved the drama, the romance, the development of the characters and the plot. All in a flow of the story that made it hard to put down the book.

Overall, Jenni Fletcher yet again gave us a lovely story and I don’t even know what to say to describe my love for the novel, without giving spoilers. Although it’s part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, so don’t be scared to read it. It’s really amazing!

About the Author

The Mysterious Lord Millcroft - Virginia Heath

When Virginia Heath was a little girl it took her ages to fall asleep, so she made up stories in her head to help pass the time while she was staring at the ceiling. As she got older, the stories became more complicated, sometimes taking weeks to get to the happy ending. Then one day, she decided to embrace the insomnia and start writing them down. Despite that, it still takes her forever to fall asleep.

My Review

Virginia Heath is one of the Historical Romance authors that I trust. I know she will bring an amazing story to the readers’ hands, with strong and realistic characters and a plot that will take us on a journey.

This book was as brilliant as all the others I have read by Virginia Heath.

This author always bring the most strong female characters to her stories. And I love that. I love that I feel empowered, I love that I can connect with this smart, loyal, independent and sassy woman. Faith is awesome and I want to be her friend.

And then there is Lord Eastwood… Let me sigh for a moment. Piers caught my heart and didn’t let it go until a day later after I finished the story. Virginia Heath’s mind creates the most lovable men. We can’t help but to fall for them along side the female MC.

This book wasn’t just about attraction of epic characters. It was about scandal, finding love and happiness, overcoming obstacle like insecurity and the drama around the past. That’s what I love, because it makes the story even more real and pull me into it.

Overall, it yet another 5* for me. I love the book and each time Virginia Heath publishes a book I find a new book boyfriend to love (until the next one).
