My Review

Sometimes books catch my attention via it’s genre, others because of the cover, and then there are those that have an appealing. In this case, it was all those things.

In this story we follow immortal Lord Blake as we goes on a crazy adventure of reopening a zoo and connecting with the people he ends up meeting. The characters were exciting and real. I especially loved the chemistry and interaction between Blake and Ginny, they were amazing and cute.

I really liked the amount of fantasy/paranormal and romance, they were a a soft added element. And I loved the mystery that, as well as the characters interactions and secrets, was what got me excited to read each page. Even the flashbacks and the information we were discovering with each moment and each revelation, it was fantastic.

Overall, it was a lovely story, just what I love in fantasy/paranormal adventure romance. I also enjoyed the author’s writing style, how he gave us a storytelling with a good pace, one that made every chapter intriguing.

My Review

I love vampire stories. It’s a particular subgenre and mythology that I’m fascinated about.

Jay Raven keep surprising me with the route this series is taking. Book after book I loved it even more. He took me on a journey through the darkness and left me want more.

I love the dynamic of the vampires in the book. I love the characters, I love the fact that we are following a vampire hunter, which really is unique in all Vampire Stories world. It’s another side of the same coin and get so pumped thinking about the whole concept of the series.

Anton is a character that keeps developing and reading about his struggles and his interactions with society, and specially the vampires, is such an emotional rollercoaster. He has depth in his personality. I felt connected with him and I could understand him and his reasoning, thanks to the author’s craftsmanship.

Loved the flow of the story and the different points of view. And it was a page turner. Couldn’t put it down and read most of it at night. Which was quite interesting for my dreams afterwards.

Overall, and since I don’t want to spoil anything, let me just say that when I read Jay Raven’s vampire – vampire hunter story I get this new boost of energy and love of the subgenre.

My Review

I have been exploring audiobooks bit more during this crazy time in our lives and in the world. Not because I’m out, but because at the end of the day, when I’m stressed and just want a book, my eyes don’t always cooperate, since they are tired. And with the audiobooks I can just relax and enjoy the story.

That’s what I did with this one. I love a good fantasy/paranormal romance. It’s what I write and what I love to read before going to bed. It gets my dreams to an exciting place. Listening to it is a all different experience. And who doesn’t like angel’s stories?

I had previous read S C Cunningham works and enjoyed it. But this was my introduction to the series, as I have not read these books. ‘The Deal’ is book one in the Fallen Angel Series and I really did enjoy it as well. I have to say though, I have to get the book so I can read it and see if I missed something (I don’t trust my mind 100% anyway). Rereading and reentering a story is something I love to do anyway.

By the narrator’s pleasant voice, we enter the world that the author has crafted. It’s not pretty, then again, life rarely is. It’s a strong book and dark too in some ways. It touches various topics that my be triggering for some people, so keep that in mind.

I enjoyed the plot and and I had a couple of moments that surprised me because of some scenes that created a visual. Not a bad thing for me at all, it was actually something that I thought refreshing and different from what I was reading previously.

It was quite intense and emotional, which helped with establishing some connection with characters. I always look forward to that connection.

Overall, I enjoyed it and I’m curious to see where the next book will go.

My Review

This book is the second one in the series, and I have read and reviewed the previous book so I was very curious to read this one and see where the characters and the story continued.

As soon as I started to read the novel, I was taken back to this world. It takes the reader in a new journey with the aftermath of the previous book. I won’t say much because it’s a continuation of the first book and I don’t want to accidentally reveal spoilers.

I loved to see where the characters are now and how they developed with the events in this story. How the relationships are now. We get to learn more about certain characters, because it’s a series and the characters develop, they still have secrets that are being revealed. And I love that the author gave us more information about the characters.

Paranormal is one of my favorite genres and this series grabbed my attention since the beginning. The way this second novel flowed, the plot, the pace, the amount of action… it made it an exciting read.

I may even reread the books in the future to see if I missed any extra detail. This is the kind of series that deserve a reread. Overall, this book was another rollercoaster of emotion, and I loved ever moment reading it.

My Review

As many of you know, I love vampire stories. It’s a kind of story/myth that I find fascinating. I love to see what the author take is of the entire “vampire community”; what is the origin story, how the society works.

“The Blood Society” is the first book in the series, and of course we get the introductions of the world, some important characters, including the main character, and we get to understand little by little what it going on. That been said, this is a fantastic opening to a brand-new vampire world.

We follow Samantha, aka Sammy, and it’s through her point of view that the story unfolds. Sammy was amazing!  She’s the kind of character that we can connect with. Sammy isn’t only dealing with the vampires and working for a company trying to protect the world from the “monsters”, she’s also dealing with loss. And that made her very believable. Plus, I love that she got to grow and develop. I honestly can’t wait to see what else is going to happen in book two, especially because of the revelations in the end of this novel.

The beginning of the book had this dream like feeling. It happened in the past and it’s our introduction to the vampires and the hunters, as well as the tragedy that is going to mean a lot in the rest of the book. From there, we jump to the present, following Sammy through her daily life as a hunter, experiencing every emotion, every moment she goes through.

But this book wasn’t just about Sammy, of course. There is a group of characters that we get to meet, some that I immediately liked and found fascinating, and others that set off some alarms in my mind.

The relationships between them, and the relationships that Sammy has with them, give us an understanding of the personalities and open our minds to the context of the story and plot. I love seeing the interactions of how real they felt.

Even the romance… I loved how Sammy doesn’t need him (not going to say who) to keep living, but he does help out a lot. It’s through their interactions that we learn more about Sammy and get to see her growth and the real struggle she’s dealing with. So, I loved it because it gave me some contrast, and sweet moments as well.

One of the brilliant things about this story is how much it made me think. My brain filled with many theories and I was happy and excited when I realized I was on the right track. Still, the revelations were mind blowing, some I was surprised to learn.

Overall, I absolutely love this book and I highly recommend it. With action, romance, mystery, surprises and the vampire/hunter dynamic that, combined with the interesting origin story, gave us an unique book and series.

About the Author

I’ve been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There’s no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.

I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).

So far, I’ve worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer’s mill.

My Review

20191128_155216This novel was my introduction to Nalini Singh’s works, and it came at a time I truly needed a good story that not only made me dream but also regain my strength back. I fell in love so much with this story that I have reread it plenty of times.

As we follow Elena in this exciting and dangerous hunt, along side with Raphael, we get to learn more about Angels (and Archangels), vampires and the Guild. A brilliant start of a series that grabbed our attentions and make us wish for more.

With so many amazing characters we know this could only be the beginning for some of them, because it is true that the ending made us wonder, but the amount of unanswered questions about the vampires and angels that Elena meets, the fantastic and loyal Seven… That was something that always got me excited.

Elena has the most badass job possible. It wasn’t a choice, it was meant to be, since her natural abilities gave her no other option but to be a hunter. That fact creates a tense dynamic with her father as well.

P1070835All the characters were well constructed and felt real, as if they could truly exist in our reality. The interactions developed the story, giving us an understanding about the characters and the world building and society’s rules. The story was focus on the people that are living those even, as much as the danger and problems that are happening.

Overall, this is an amazing start of a series, ending with such an amazing opening that make us curious about the next book and how the characters are going to deal with all the aftermath of the events that lead to that point.

If you don’t know Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series, I definitely recommend it. It’s a whole new take on the vampire origin story and… it has Angels!

“Daylight’s Deadly Kiss” Review

Hello Friends!

I hope you are doing well this past few days. It’s been raining here in my hometown, so Nala (cat) and I have been saying in bed and not even venturing going to other rooms in the house. Plus I have been writing a lot.

Today, though, I had to go get some gorceries and now that I’m back, I wanted to share a review with you all.

Daylight’s Deadly Kiss, written by Jay Raven, this is the second book in the Blood Riders series, a paranormal novel, a dark fantasy vampire book with a gothic horror feel, published on 3rd April 2020.

I want to thank Rachel, at Rachel’s Random Resources, and Jay Raven for the eCopy of this book, and for allowing me to join in the fun and being a part of the blog tour with my honest review of the book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Daylights Deadly Kiss

Synopsis

50544617. sy475 In 19th century Europe the most deadly vampire-killing weapon ever devised is up for grabs – and both the Undead and the living will stop at nothing to possess it…

It’s a legend, a fairy story parents tell frightened children to make them sleep. Basium Lucis – Daylight’s Kiss – the fabled compound that recreates sunlight in a bottle, and incinerates bloodsucking monsters on contact.

Vampire hunter Anton Yoska doesn’t believe in its existence or the whispered rumours of its creation by Leonardo Da Vinci 250 years before.

But when a mysterious Hungarian arts dealer claims to have uncovered the long-lost formula, Anton’s cynicism is shaken to the core as he is tasked to procure the pyrotechnic marvel for the Vatican’s centuries-old battle with the vampire sect known as the Brethren.

In a desperate race to beat nosferatu forces intent on destroying the wonder weapon, and cold-blooded gangsters who desire the Alchemist’s most prized invention for their own aggrandisement and riches, Anton is caught in a maelstrom of double dealing and lies..

Traps loom at every turn, and nothing is what it appears, but acquiring the Basium Lucis is the least of the his problems  – for the ferocious Modjeski vampire family want retribution for his slaughter of their clan chief a year before. And old flame and rival slayer, Nadia, has her own devious plans to thwart Anton’s quest.

As time runs out and predators circle, the beleaguered hunter realises he’s been tricked into a suicide mission. But Anton Yoska won’t go down without a fight – and he doesn’t care who he takes to Hell with him.

Jay Raven PhotoJay Raven is the author of Gothic chillers and historical horror reminding readers that the past is a dangerous place to venture, full of monsters and murderous men. My Review

First of all, I would like to say that I have read the first book and loved it, so when I saw the opportunity to read and review this book, I was very excited. I love vampire stories, I’m currently working on one, if that’s any clue of my love for this topic.

P1070737It always amazes me the amount of versions that exist around the story of vampires, from the POV of the vampires itself, or the one that hunt them, it all brings diversity and a new take on the legend.

With book one, Crimson Siege, I loved how Jay Raven took the them and made it his own, and with this novel, he continues to go deeper into the world he created, taking us with him. And we, once again, follow Anton Yoska, a vampire hunter.

I will try to now say much since I don’t want to give any spoilers, plus I recommend you all to read book one and them book two, so you can fully understand the main character and his background story.

I loved the new element added to this world, with the Daylight’s Kiss, and Leonard Da Vinci’s formula. That just made the story richer in my opinion. And since Anton is the one procuring it, it got me so curious about that would happen next. Because, let’s be honest, it’s a century old battle between vampires and the Vatican, both parts want to have it. One to destroy it, the other to use it. Anything can happen and I loved that.

Overall, I loved that this book was as awesome as the first one. It had it’s fair amount of excitement, action, horror, vampires, and a war that come with lies and uncertainty. Like I said previously, I do recommend you to read the previous novel, that why you can understand the character’s background and why certain things happen.
