For the boys, their high-risk lives endanger all three of them in an association that blurs the lines between friendship and dependency.

As the risks escalate, Lorna’s best friend Hannah, her brother Dan, her bully-turned-protector Nico and her unexpected friend Rosa watch with concern as she is thrust ever closer to harm in an intoxicating new landscape. My Review

I have previous read Love Punked, by Nia Lucas, and it was a surprising emotional journey for me. This time, although I was kind of prepared to face the emotions that the book would manipulate me into feeling, I still was surprised at how much this book made me feel.

We follow Lorna’s story. The choices and the journey she takes from the beginning of the book until the end. I loved seeing the development of the MC, and the interactions between the characters, because there was this familiar aspect that made me connect in some way. I can’t really explain. Maybe it was because the characters felt like they were real people, like my grandma or an aunt was tell me this story, letting me understand the POV and the circumstances.

Plus, the story happens during the 90s, which I found quite unique. I was born in 1994, and although I remember watching movies of that era, as well as listenting to music with my mom… As well as all the stories my family shared with me. So I felt a bit nostalgic and excited by reading this book.

The plot was interesting, the storyline lend me to this rollercoaster and excitement mood that caught me on the first couple of pages. I really wanted to know what would happen next. What the characters would do, what problems they would face and what crazy things could happen. I wanted to know about love, friendship, expectations and every essential part of the characters life.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. I loved how thought provoking it can be, as well as emotional. I loved how it had this old feel to it because of the setting, that many people like me and older can relate, and the younger ones can still in some sense get it or be curious about. I love Lorna and her evolution. I loved how it resembled life.

I tend to draw to novels that draw away from love stories and more towards suspense and personal experiences shared from one person to the next. I love books that make you feel for the character and give you a sense of fulfillment when you claim their happiness as you’re own.

I am always busy with school, work and with my family but I always leave time out of my day to relax with a book and some tea. For me, it’s a form of escape from the world that I am surrounded by, where I can escape to a world where I can draw a connection to the book characters and their stories.

My Review

Let’s just stop for a second and appreciate this cover and the fact that there is a new poetry book by Chelsea Girard. Okay, everyone ready? Because I have a lot to say.

P1070489First of all, even before I started reading I knew I would be an emotional wreck once I started, because from past reading experience with this author’s books that was what ended up happening. And I was right. I was crying, smiling, feeling empowered, inspired, connected with my memories and I felt as if someone finally got what I had been trying to say.

That’s the power of Chelsea Girard’s melodic writing style. She knows how to takes us on this journey through our own heart, soul and mind, by giving us not only food for thought, but also by provoking emotions and calling memories. That’s something I have always loved about her books and this one was another collection of poems that touched my heart.

I may have broken down in front of you
But that doesn’t mean
I broke down because of you.

~ Chelsea Girard

A lot of poems took me down memory lane. I remembered my past, I thought about my own experiences, and some poems connected with that as if they were my words, the words for the feelings I had at that time. Other poems made me think about those memories in a new light.

There are some poems here she was like redacted, obscured, most of the text but some chosen words. I loved that concept in the book, because sometimes we do that in our lives, we obscure some parts of what we are feeling or thinking. At least, I know I do that.

P1070488I was also inspired, and I have had new ideas for stories I’m working on, because of the emotions I felt, because the poems connected with a characters I had in my mind, because I started to thinking about something I hadn’t wonder about before. So the poems were thought provoking to me.

Overall, I loved this collection of poems. I loved how I felt connected to this energy, this essence that is part of all of us.

I felt calm in the end, after the rollercoaster of emotions, memories and thoughts, I felt at home. Just like I feel after talking to my mom or my best friends. I felt like that because it was like I had poured out my heart and had someone that loved me beside me, listening, giving me hugs and understanding what I could and couldn’t say out-loud.

An amazing and powerful book that I highly recommend. That’s it…

My Review

I haven’t review many poetry books, but it’s a genre that I like to read, especially when I feel a connection to the poems I’m reading. In Shruti Agrawal’s book we can find poems, thoughts, quotes… It’s a very beautiful book that talks about life and the emotions we all have, so it talks about love, acceptance, self-reflection, healing and an overall connection with the reader and this thought provoking reading.

Personally, I could connect emotional in a deep level to some of the poems. Not all of them, because some were stronger to me because I could see myself in them, but those I didn’t relate to, I could still understand and feel empathy for the person that does feel that. So, even thought my personal experiences made a connection with some poems, my empathy could connect with everything, and that’s good.

p1070256There were some poems that I didn’t connect based on a past experience, but because they made me think about what it was talking about and that was something I also liked about the book, it make us thing. The reflection aspect of the book is one of the elements I really loved because it meant even more to me than the connection I felt with my past and experiences.

Like I said before, this book talks about different perspectives in life. And the authors is young, so to see the depth in the poems and the insights in them, makes me applaud her for her beautiful, simple and magical writing, and I hope she keeps going so we – the readers – can enjoy more books.

Overall, I loved the book and was very happy in the end, although I would love to read a couple more pages of poems, because I would love to keep reflecting and take a journey inside myself as I read more poems and thoughts.

My Review

P1060540From the very beginning of this series I became involved with all the characters and I must say that I have enjoyed watching them all develop and that was such a fun thing to read. Emily gave them this charm, actually she give the all town and all the books a charm and humor that makes us feel like we are a part of the story.

With the characters developing and the ongoing storyline, the mysteries deepen and the Mattie’s life keeps unfolding. But with this final book we get the answers to our questions and they are not quite as straightforward and expected as one would think based on the first book or the blurbs.

P1060541I was quite surprised to know Mattie’s secrets and the final few chapters in the book were so unexpected and satisfying. Emily kept us excited and curious from book one until the very end and she has the ability to create a setting and ambiance in the storyline flow and tone that makes this final book just the perfect ending to the mystery.

Then there is Mia’s love life that was funny and in some ways real, because we are are looking for love. And Mia’s search for her Mr. Right, kept going until she did finds him and I got so happy! All of the characters in this series were wonderful, from the good, the bad and the in-between type of characters. So, no wonder I loved the romance and friendship as much as I loved the mystery.

P1060543The fact that the story focus on Mia’s life as much as Mattie’s secrets was a plus. And with each book, with each season change, the book takes a different color and flow, something that makes it perfect for those readers that plan on reading all four books one after the other. Emily give us a pace in the storyline that kept me at the edge of my seat.

And even though it was the ending book of the series, Emily Harvale wrote anther book set in this cute town, “Christmas on Lily Pond Lane“, and I can’t wait for that. It will be different I suppose, since in the end Mia’s future is set in a go path and I’m curious to know more about that future.
