Hello Friends!
I hope you are all doing well this Wednesday. I planned on posting before this late hour, but my day was so crazy and I got home later than I thought I would. That’s why I’m only posting now.
Anyway, let’s go back to subject at hand… The review!
“Choices Shape, Losses Break“, written by Nia Lucas, is a Contemporary Romance novel, published on April 2020.
I want to thank Rachel, at Rachel’s Random Resources, and Nia Lucas for the eCopy of this book and for allowing me to join in the fun and being a part of the blog tour with my honest review of the book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Synopsis

Shunned and struggling at home and school, teenager Lorna Davies clatters into chaotic and charismatic Shay O’Driscoll and Leon Barrett at an illegal rave in 1995. As Lorna’s talent for dancing sees her unexpectedly employed in the strobe-lit heart of 90’s club culture, her world is turned on its head by her budding friendship with Shay and Leon. For the boys, their high-risk lives endanger all three of them in an association that blurs the lines between friendship and dependency.
As the risks escalate, Lorna’s best friend Hannah, her brother Dan, her bully-turned-protector Nico and her unexpected friend Rosa watch with concern as she is thrust ever closer to harm in an intoxicating new landscape. When life-threatening events risk separating them permanently, Lorna, Leon and Shay juggle love, loyalty, sacrifice and exploitation as their lives change beyond recognition. Will the losses they face break them all?

My Review
I have previous read Love Punked, by Nia Lucas, and it was a surprising emotional journey for me. This time, although I was kind of prepared to face the emotions that the book would manipulate me into feeling, I still was surprised at how much this book made me feel.
We follow Lorna’s story. The choices and the journey she takes from the beginning of the book until the end. I loved seeing the development of the MC, and the interactions between the characters, because there was this familiar aspect that made me connect in some way. I can’t really explain. Maybe it was because the characters felt like they were real people, like my grandma or an aunt was tell me this story, letting me understand the POV and the circumstances.
Plus, the story happens during the 90s, which I found quite unique. I was born in 1994, and although I remember watching movies of that era, as well as listenting to music with my mom… As well as all the stories my family shared with me. So I felt a bit nostalgic and excited by reading this book.
The plot was interesting, the storyline lend me to this rollercoaster and excitement mood that caught me on the first couple of pages. I really wanted to know what would happen next. What the characters would do, what problems they would face and what crazy things could happen. I wanted to know about love, friendship, expectations and every essential part of the characters life.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. I loved how thought provoking it can be, as well as emotional. I loved how it had this old feel to it because of the setting, that many people like me and older can relate, and the younger ones can still in some sense get it or be curious about. I love Lorna and her evolution. I loved how it resembled life.
