Are we ready for a review? Well, I have been reading and review lots of historical novels, and tonight is another one.

“War Clouds Over Blackberry Farm“, written by Rosie Clarke, is a Historical fiction, Saga novel, the first book in a new series, published on 4th November 2021, by Boldwood Books.

My Review

Rosie Clarke bring us a brand new series, introduced with this book. A book in the WWII era about family, friendship, love and how the times of war affects the community. I love historical novels in that saga subgenre because of how it always have that sense of community and understanding. The characters could be our family members and these could be the stories our grandparents told.

As we get to know the families and the main characters we get to follow in this journey, we are also introduce to the rural ton of Blackberry Farm and also the context of the WWII at that time. I could help myself, I as very curious to know what would happen next. I wanted happiness for the characters and my heart was with them from beginning to end.

Overall, I enjoyed it, and since it was the start of a new series, it made sense that not everything was resolved or even uncovered, and I can’t wait for the next book.

My Review

I have been reading Rosie Clarke’s books for sometime now (although I haven’t read them all), and she was one of those authors that surprised me in the beginning and with each new book, I’m continuing to be surprised. She’s one of the go-to authors when it comes to the saga subgenre of Historical fiction.

This book is the fifth one in the series, and for a better experience, you should read them in order. It has been quite a journey with the Harpers. In all the books there isn’t just the element of war and fear related to it, there is a sense of community, family, love and friendship. And as we go from one book to the next, that keeps making an appearance.

Getting back to this community was kind of like going back to my grandma’s house during summer vacation and reconnect with my family. That’s what this felt like, learning about my family’s life. Just like with our lives, in this book we follow a group os characters that have a background, a past that we have been following since book one. As time passes by, things move forward.

Ups and downs. Love and loss. New generations. Fear and war. The story, despite the time period, felt real, and it’s that kind of connection we established with the characters.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, just like I did the previous one. If you enjoy historical fictions happening during WWI, and you like follow a group of characters throughout their life, then I recommend this series. And like I previous said, do read the books by order to experience the journey to its fullest, and so that you can understand the background without being confused.

Finally! The last review of the day and I’m back to one of my favorite subgenres in the Historical fiction genre: Regency romance. A book by one of my go-to authors.

My Review

If you have ever read Virginia Heath’s books you expect many things. One is amazing and relatable characters. The other is sassiness. Maybe sassy is not the right word, but there is this powerful element with some smirk in the mix, if that makes any sense. It’s this quality of the characters that makes me want to be their friends and sometimes it makes me want to be them.

This story follows Hope, and our lovely female MC is not the typical character one may read in a Historical Romance. Hope is not nobility, although her family is important in the high society class. And I loved that, because I could relate to her even more. Then there is our handsome Marquess next door, Lucius, Marquess of Thundersley.

Every time I read Virginia Heath’s books I have that need to grab a fan and just join the moment and alleviate the heat going through my skin. I loved the steamy interactions between Hope and Lucius, and I loved even more that they not only had the attraction going, they also had a growing friendship.

Another thing I loved about this book was Lucius’ modesty and honesty. I loved how he acted. I loved the refreshing elements in this book that made it so different from others I have read by the author. And I actually believe that so far, this is my favorite book/story so far.

Overall, I don’t even know what else to say. There is drama, there is romance, there is family and friendship, there is a more common element of the society. And if you don’t know Virginia Heath after all the reviews I have done, you should stop and go get this book.

My Review

Dual timeline stories always make me curious. They end up having the perfect mix of historical and contemporary elements, and I’m always interested in seeing how the author connected things.

This story is set during 2004 and 1940, following Frankie in the contemporary time and Violet during WWII. Both characters had amazing personalities and their stories were powerful in different ways. I also liked how it they connected.

I also loved the relationship between Frankie and her grandma, it wasn’t an easy one and it had several problems and learning about them, allowed me to understand not just Frankie’s past, but also the reasons for her actions. Not having a good relationship with a family member is not completely unexpected, actually for me, it made the story and their interactions much truthful and real.

From someone that has seen grandparents lose the control of their minds and memories, I could connect with Frankie. My grandparents also were a very important part of my childhood, although not for the same motives as with Frankie’s life. Using the loss of the control of her mind was quite a good way to connect the dual timeline, and also made the plot curious. I wanted to know more. I was interested in knowing the secrets and the past of the characters, what had happened during the war.

Overall, I love how the story was written. It wasn’t confusing and the connecting between the timelines made sense and I couldn’t stop reading. I was curious from page one, and I wanted to know all the secrets and motivations. It was an enjoyable story that left me emotional.

My Review

Do I love historicals? Yes! Have I found out that I actually enjoy the Medieval subgenre? Well, yes. And partly because of the two previous books I have read of Melissa Oliver.

This story is the third book in the series, but honestly you can read it as a standalone, because although some characters from previous books make an appearance, it’s not in a way that may require you to have read the other stories. I do recommend you to check them out if you haven’t, because they are quite good. I do have to say that this may be my favorite.

In this romance, we follow Lady Gwenllian and Ralph de Kinnerton in their second chance love story. I do like when the characters have a second opportunity at romance, especially when it makes sense, and the author made this story relatable and emotional. I was excited to see Gwen and Ralph together.

Drama, secrets, danger, family, love, happiness, past and future. Lots of elements that made the story fly while I read it. I was connecting with Gwen and I wanted to know how hers and Ralph’s story would end up. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, it never is when there is a past between the characters, but it just made it exciting to know what would happen next.

Overall, I loved the emotion in the storytelling and it made so happy by the end. It was such a good journey for Gwen and Ralph that I couldn’t help but loving every bit I spent reading.

About the Author

Natalie’s passion for reading became a compulsion to write when she attended a ten-week course in creative writing some sixteen or so years ago. My Review

Historical Romance is a genre I quite enjoy, and I have read many books in the Regency subgenre. Does that make me an expert? No, it does not. It just means I enjoy those kinds of books. And I do believe that Natalie Kleinman hit the right reader spot for me.

In this book we follow Sophie and Rufus. It was a light read and yet it had a good amount of mystery, drama, romance and the society interactions… all things I enjoy in a historical, just as much as I love to see the main characters fall in love during a different time period and having their journey have some ups and downs.

The characters were amazing and I had fun learning about them as much as understanding their interactions and actions. I loved Rufus family, I loved learning about Sophie’s background and see her development.

The fact that we end up learning about the society in London at the same time Sophie is discovering it for the first time, it was such a perfect touch. It is part of the development of the story and the characters, but it was also something that I hadn’t read in this particular way. Quite fun and refreshing. Sophie’s introduction to the society combined with the danger of her stepbrother approaching, and in the middle of it the discovery of independence, and the growth of friendships.

Overall, I quite enjoyed the book. Scandal, romance, mystery, secrets, drama, kindness and relationships. All we need in a historical romance.

My Review

Compared to other subgenres, I haven’t read that many Viking romances, but I kind of enjoy it. Just as much as I enjoy any other subgenre of Historical Romance. It got me curious about the inspiration behind the characters and the setting, and also intrigued to know there the truth and the fiction met.

In this novel we follow Gyda and Thorstein as their Marriage alliance develops into more. Secrets, romance, drama, relatable characters, and chemistry between them that made the interactions fun to read.

A journey of opening up to love and learning how to trust. About growth and leadership… about family and those around us… about struggles and conquering goals… All of it in a setting that is very different from what we may be used to, but that the narrative still transported us to it.

Overall, I enjoyed it a lot. It reminded me why I’m curious about the past and the way a society acted during that time and cultural context. Although the book is fiction, and some things may be open to interpretation, it got me curious. Not just about the side characters, but also about the time period.

My Review

Historical Romances… my cozy reads. I’m always open to read a historical romance by a new-to-me author, I’m always marveled by the plot, the characters and even the historical and social elements that I get to learn.

In this book we follow Fiona and Brandon, two people that had a past together, they had loved each other, then something happened.

Betrayal, secrets, love, grief, duty, choice, family… there are a lot of things that move us as human beings. This book has that too which made it realistic and I could connect with the characters, each is very good because there are always differences between past and present.

Speaking about the characters, I loved them. I loved that they knew each other previously, because the fact that they had that history gave me the possibility to see their development and relationship grow in a different way. Plus, there is always drama when people have history.

Overall, this story is filled with emotion and the overcoming of the past and moving on towards happiness and growth. It was quite interesting for me because the circumstances that lead to the romance and the “get-together” of the characters is not as usual, which was a breath of fresh air for me. I can’t wait to see what else Jeanine Englert will have for us in future books.

“The Mother’s Day Club” Review

I feel like this is my year for Historical Fiction, I have been reading many books in that big genre and I’m enjoying this journey. Today I bring you a review of one of those books.

“The Mother’s Day Club“, written by Rosie Hendry, is a Historical Fiction novel, the first book in the Women on the Home Front Series, published 18th February 2021 by Little Brown, Sphere.

About the Author

Rosie Hendry lives by the sea in Norfolk with her husband and children. A former teacher and research scientist, she’s always loving reading and writing. She started off writing short stories for magazines, her stories gradually becoming longer as her children grew bigger.

Listening to her father’s tales of life during the Second World War sparked Rosie’s interest in this period and she’s especially intrigued by how women’s lives changed during the war years. She loves researching further, searching out gems of real life events which inspire her writing.

When she’s not working, Rosie enjoys walking along the beach, reading and is grateful for the fact that her husband is a much better cook than her.

My Review

There is powerful feeling to a Saga – historical novel. Maybe because the events happening are closer to our present and hearts. Maybe because of these events that marked our history. Maybe because of the people that are portrayed.

This book is the first in a series, so it’s an introduction to a group of people and the circumstances and background of the characters. So, we met Marianne and Thea… they were really amazing. Read about them was like reading about a family member I never knew. They had that familiar feeling and I connected with them.

Friendship, family, country life, war, drama, secrets… There are a lot being explored in the novel. We can’t help but be focus and want to know more. We are not only transported to this time period, but also to a plot that although fictional with characters created by the author, it sounded as authentic as any of our grandparents’ tales.

Overall, I enjoyed it so much. It had all I look for in this kind of book. It had a realistic setting and narrative. It had amazing characters that made me connect with their stories and their lives. It had enough secrets, danger and drama. It had the interactions needed to understand the plot, the flow of the novel and for me to see the characters almost in real light.
