“The Oddest Little Beach Shop” Review

Hello Friends!

Finally, here is the last book of Beth Good’s The Oddest Little Series. I’m so happy that I had this opportunity, they were all just wonderful books.

The Oddest Little Beach Shop” is the name of this finally book, also written by Beth Good, it was release on 12th July 2018 and, like every book in the series, it’s a romantic comedy.

I want to thank Rachel, at Rachel’s Random Resources, and Beth Good for the eCopy of this book and for allowing me to join in the fun and by being a part of the blog tour with my honest review of the book.

From the first day of Annie’s arrival in the sleepy Cornish resort of Polzel, next-door neighbour Gabriel seems determined to make her life difficult.

Despite his sexy looks and angelic name, Gabriel behaves like an ogre to everyone, and has apparently been that way since losing his wife in a surfing accident. Annie would do far better, her friend Claudia urges her, to focus her attentions on Jamie instead. Jamie’s the hottest lifeguard in the village – and her co-worker in the Polzel beach shop.

But when Polzel’s famous annual pie-rolling contest sees Annie and Gabriel forced together, it turns out Annie might have a thing for big Cornish ogres after all . . .

A feel-good summer novella from popular romantic comedy writer Beth Good and another quirky entry in her ‘Oddest Little Shop’ series.

My Review

P1060641This is my last book in the series and it was another great book. It was about new beginnings and moving forward with life, and although that may make the novel sound like a strong and heavy book, Beth wrote it with such a humor and sweet tone that it made it light and the perfect read for a warm afternoon.

In this uplifting story we follow Annie as she gets her new beginning in the resort town of Polzel. Her interactions with the characters and all the funny moments were a perfect way to balance with the rest of the stronger aspects in the plot. The characters development and the dialogues between them made me feel a connection.

P1060716Besides, I live very close to the beach, less than 3km away, so the cultural aspects here are strong, and it was quite interesting to read about the environment that is represented in the book. I left this book for last because, although I like the beach I thought that since I live in the coast of Portugal I should leave this book to last, just because I know it may remind me of home. Plus, I’m not a fan of going to the beach in the summer.

P1060627Anyway, I was right, this book did remind me a little of home. Specially the characters and the tourism fact that is so important to the economics of the town. But… The book took an interesting turn when the pie contest appeared. I like pies, baking them more than eating them, so I was quite interested in knowing how that would play out with the all beach theme. And I loved it.

I do recommend the book. And you can even take it to the beach and enjoy it there.

My Review

P1060614I’m quite happy I as able to get all the books in this series. Beth Good did an amazing job with every single story, this one was so engaging and cute. I was quite curious to know how the all Romance Shop was going to portrait in the story. “How could that work out?” I asked myself even before I read the blurb.

Beth gave us another sweet romance with this book and so unexpected. I loved that the book took a turn I wasn’t expecting, because it left me curious from start to finish. And since it was a short and fast read it didn’t took me long to finish it. Besides, the engaging characters and the plot made me stay glued to my phone and I couldn’t put it down.

In this book we follow Izzie as she tries to find her happily ever after, which means get married and start a family and have her perfect life. Then there is the unexpected marriage proposal in form of a Valentine’s card and, of course, Izzie sets has her goal to find out the identity of the sender.

P1060729This a journey of twists and turns that will make you laugh and curious to read the next page until the very end. It was a different concept and the plot had a great pace for the flow that was need in this storyline.

I’m not going to talk about the all ‘Romance shop’ in the title, you guys should go read the book and figure out if there is or isn’t a ‘Romance’ shop. It made me think for a while, but… hey!… I didn’t mind the truth.

All the books in the series are connecting by the similar covers and titles, and that is different and could be unexpected when you read the book and figure things out. Nevertheless, it’s plot and the characters are really what matters to me, and I hope you go read this book and figure out on your own what I’m talking about.

So yes… I recommend the book. This was one of my favorite books in the series, despite the fact that I did read them in order of favorite “titles” (book, chocolate, tea, and no romance), but I’m glad I read this one now. So I do hope you give it a chance.

My Review

P1060609I do love chocolate and I was curious to know what would be the plot in this book since it was my second book of the series.

My grandparents were immigrants in France, and I have a lot of family members that are French, although some have dual nationality. And I feel some connection with France in a way. I even speak French since I was 5 years old. Nevertheless, I love French cuisine. Well… I love food in general… but I wasn’t expecting this book to have recipes of chocolate wonders, but just that element that that is a chocolate shop was enough for me to have to go grab some chocolate my aunt brought me from France.

In this book we meet Clementine and she as foodie name, just saying, it’s a perfect name for a character in a book that talks about food, plus, chocolate can be combined with plenty of fruit. And from the first time Clementine meets Monsieur Ravel and beginnings her work to trying to figure out what is going on, I got so curious.

P1060610Dominic Ravel, such a great name. Actually, Beth selected great names for all the characters I have met so far in her books. Anyway, back to Dominic… from that first time I read about him I wonder about what happen that made him go down that path. So, I loved discovering about is past and present, as well as figure out is mind and emotions. And seeing how Clementine tries to help him out and connected with him just has much as I did… it was so much fun, especially.

Then there is Clementine’s older sister and I loved the interactions between them. I always wish I had a sister, but fortunately I have two amazing best-friends that are like my sisters, so I can have that sisterly love and connection. This just made me happy I have them to share that kind of feeling, and with whom I can talk with.

Sweet book and I don’t mean just because of the chocolates. The plot was interesting and combined very well with the sweet scenes where Clementine and Dominic interact. And if you want to have a chocolate craving and your heart full of happiness, then I recommend this book. It was another quick and fun romance, with humor, love and chocolate.

Hello Friends!

My Review

This is my first book of Sun Chara’s, although I will be reading/reviewing other book of hers in the future. From the cover, to the title and to the blurb… it all was different it made me curious.

P1060472A Match Made in Heaven?” was different from the usual books that have the marriage kind of theme. It started with craziness, but it was the rollercoaster of emotions and moments that made it a funny story to read.

There are some secrets that kept me on my toes, not knowing when the characters would finally come clean about that to each other. That plus the humor, made the story enjoyable to read.

It had a quick pace over all, and the flow was crazy, a bit like the characters at some point, but I honestly didn’t mind it that much, because the plot twist and the humor and romance moments made everything better.

Samantha and Johnny were unexpected characters to me. I thought I knew what the book would be about and they completely changed my mind and that unexpectedness was fun and made the story unique. There were weird moments for me but I would laugh it all in the end.

Overall, although I didn’t love it, I liked it and enjoyed it. It made me laugh for good reasons, so that’s a plus in my list.

“An Artisan Lovestyle” Review

Hello Friends!

As some of you may know, I’m on vacations and it’s been a good vacation so far. Today, for some reason I slept a lot more than I would have liked and I was planing on going for a walk this morning, which ended up confusing my mind and messing up my schedule. Vacations can be weird…

Nevertheless, I’m here to give you guys a review of one of the books I read this weekend, “An Artisan Lovestyle“, the second book of Kiltie Jackson‘s The Lovestyle Series.

You may remember the post I did for the cover reveal of this book. And now I can happily give you guys my thoughts about it. So, Thank you Kiltie Jackson and Rachel, from Rachel’s Random Resources, for the eCopy of this book, in exchange for an honest review, and for allowing me to be a part of this blog tour.

An Artisan Lovestyle - Hi-resAre you ‘living’ your life or just living your life?

Elsa Clairmont was widowed barely five years after marrying her childhood sweetheart. She has struggled to come to terms with the loss and, six years later, has almost ceased to live herself. She does just enough to get by.

Danny Delaney is the ultimate ‘Mr Nice Guy’. He’s kind, caring and sweet. A talented artist in his teens, his abusive mother ruined his career in art and he turned his back on his exceptional gift. Now, he does just enough to get by.

On New Year’s Eve, both Danny and Elsa die in unrelated accidents.

Thanks to some poker playing shenanigans, Elsa’s husband Harry, and Danny’s old Art teacher, William, manage to orchestrate a deal with Death that allows Danny and Elsa to live for one more year on the condition they both agree
to complete three tasks.

They have until the last chime of Big Ben on the 31st December to fulfil their quests.

If they succeed, they stay in the world of the living.

If they should fail however…

‘An Artisan Lovestyle’ is a story of personal growth and self-discovery as two people find themselves forced to make overdue changes in their lives, changes in other people’s lives, and all with the added challenge of finding true love before their time runs out.

Will they do it?

Can they do it?

After all, it’s a matter of Life or Death…

An Artisan Lovestyle Head Shot PiccieKiltie grew up in Glasgow in Scotland. This is a very unique city with a very unique way of looking at life.

When she was old enough to do so, she moved to London and then, after several years of obtaining interesting experiences -which are finding their way into her writing – she moved up to the Midlands.

Kiltie currently lives in Staffordshire with five cats and one grumpy husband.  Her little home is known as Moggy Towers, even though despite having plenty of moggies, there are no towers! The cats kindly allow her and Mr Mogs to share their house on the condition they keep paying the mortgage!

She loves reading, watching movies, and visiting old castles. She really dislikes going to the gym! Her biggest desire is that one day she can give up the day job and write her stories for a living.

36180515Kiltie’s debut novel, ‘A Rock ‘n’ Roll Lovestyle’, was released in September 2017 and won a “Chill With A Book – Reader Award” in December 2017. She first began writing her debut novel eleven years before it was released but shelved it as she didn’t think it was very good.

In November 2016 when, having read more on a best-selling author who had begun her own career as a self-published author, she was inspired to revisit the unfinished manuscript and finally finish what she had started.

Since beginning to write again, the ideas have not stopped flowing. ‘An Artisan Lovestyle’ is the second book in the Lovestyle Series. Work is due to begin on book three (not yet titled but also part of the Lovestyle Series) in the Summer of 2018. She currently has a further ten plots and ideas stored in her file (it’s costing a fortune in USB drives as each story has its own memory stick!) and the ideas still keep on coming.

Kiltie now lives her life around the following three quotes:

  • “I love having weird dreams, they’re great fodder for book plots!”
  • “Why wait for your ship to come in when you can swim out to meet it?”
  • “Old enough to know better, young enough not to care!”

My Review

P1050944.JPGI have never read Kiltie’s first book, this is the first book I read of hers and I’m don’t even mind, because even thought it’s the second book in the series it can be read as a standalone. And the only problem I got was that I wanted to read “A Rock ‘n’ Roll Lovestyle“.

When I read the blurb my first thought was that this was an unique take on the second chance in life and the all Death aspect of a book with some paranormal components. Plus I have never read anything like that and I was curious. Once I saw the cover I had this feeling that I was going to read a memoir or was listen to my grandma talk about her past while we were looking at photos.

Let me explain what I mean by that, when I was child my grandparents would tell me about their lives, about how their life went because of their decisions, how they learn about life from their mistakes and by trying to follow what they thought as right, how they grow up. That’s what felt like while a was reading this book. In some ways it was like reading how people learn, change, grab every opportunity and try and do their best and live their lives the best they can.

P1050980.JPGAs I kept reading, I would see Danny and Elsa just grab that new chance to live again. The way Kiltie wrote her characters made me connect with them, I felt like Danny and Elsa were part of my family and I was listening about their life-story and seeing them go through the motions of life, seeing them seize every opportunity and learning about letting go and begging to live again. I was rooting for them to succeed in accomplish their goals and the tasks. I was patiently waiting to see them happy because I knew they deserved it.

Even though the paranormal feel and the succeed in fulfilling their quests/tasks was quite unique, the romance was warming, the development of the characters felt real and the wonderful storytelling made the book so much intriguing, eye-opening and just fun to read.

The characters were fun and there were a lot of funny moments, especially when they involved Death, because I was not expecting that. From the very first few pages, I know I would be laughing and having fun. The balance between all the aspects in the book gave the characters a good setting and it made the plot light.

Kiltie was able not only to create and give voice to amazing character that we end up feeling connected to, but she was also able to write characters that we end up loving to hate. And we all know that we have to have those characters in books sometimes because they make the journey of reading so much richer.

P1050981The book talks about a lot of aspects. It’s about life, second chances, living with all the problems that the waves of life bring us. It’s about loss and coming to terms with that new reality, and I can connect with that. It’s about finding ourselves again and becoming the best version of ourselves. It’s about never giving up and keep fighting and grabbing every new chance we get. And everything, like a good memoir, or a good day spent with your family listening to old stories, it gives you a lot to think about. But that’s life!

An Artisan Lovestyle” is a warm, funny and very well-written book that I definitely recommend to my friends, family and followers.

“The Cottage on Lily Pond Lane – Part Two” Review

Hello Friends!

It’s time to talk about another fun book I read this past week, “The Cottage on Lily Pond Lane – Part Two: Summer Secrets“, by Emily Harvale. You may remember this me talking about the first part of this series, “New Beginnings“, and you can check that review out here.

Now I’m here with the second book and the story keeps developing more, but I will talk a bit about that in my review, in a moment.

Once again I’m a part of a blog tour that Rachel from Rachel’s Random Resources did. And Thank you Rachel and Emily for the book I got in exchange for an honest review.

Lily Pond Lane SUMMER-NEW_MAY18 - Summer SecretsEscape to the seaside village of Little Pondale with Part Two of this heart-warming and romantic, four-part serial.

Mia Ward was amazed to inherit her great-aunt Matilda’s thatched cottage in the tiny seaside village of Little Pondale – especially as Mia didn’t know she had a great-aunt Matilda. She was even more astonished to discover she’d only inherit the place if she lives there for a year.

Now Mia and her friends, Ella and Garrick are embracing village life. Garrick’s also embracing someone in The Frog and Lily, so Mia turns her attention to one or two of her sexy, single neighbours. But great-aunt Matilda remains an enigma and Mia’s still determined to discover who she was.

When Mia’s mum, Lori arrives, she’s eager to see what the summer has to offer. There’s the Kite Festival, the Fête, the Frog Hill Run, but what really appeals to Lori, much to Mia’s horror, is the Midsummer Night’s naked bathing in the pond at Frog’s Hollow.

As sweltering days surrender to sultry nights, love is definitely in the air. And when an incident means Mia has to face her greatest fear, help arrives from a surprising source. But one thing is clear… someone is trying to make sure Mia doesn’t stay in Little Pondale…

My Review:

Summer Secrets” is the second part on this series and we keep following Mia’s new life in the intriguing village od Little Pondale.

All the things I loved about the second book, the friendship and the interactions between the characters, the mystery and all the secrets, the gossiping, the fun and light tone of the book, all the single men, the plot, and the humor… It’s still here in “Summer Secrets“.

P1050949The storyline keeps getting better with each moment that passes. Love is in the air more that in the first book, Mia’s mom is here, and the book kept me interesting with the colorful writing (and covers) and even attitude of it’s characters.

We are still discovering aunt Matilda’s secrets. To me she’s this mystery that I don’t know if I want to figure out. I like that there is that enigma of “Who is Aunt Mattie? Who is she really?” from the very beginning of the series. And because most secrets are still in the closet, and even when we talk one out, there are still more inside, I kept wanting to read more.

Plus, the characters are the best. The way the plot continues to roll, relationships are formed, and a lot of funny moments happen. It’s like one of the novellas my grandma used to watch, unbelievable things happen between the characters. Unbelievable because of the funny and entertaining aspect of the scenes, not because it was unexpected.

So, I applaud Emily for that brilliant job in keeping things interesting and fresh.

I recommend this book, but don’t forget to read it in order if you want to get the full experience.

Thank goodness I get to read the third part of this series because I get getting curious with each part I read. To those that are curious too, here is the blurb and the cover of Part Three of “The Cottage on Lily Pond Lane”.

Lily Pond Lane AUTUMN-9 Jun-NEWEscape to the seaside village of Little Pondale with Part Three of this heart-warming and romantic, four-part serial.

Mia Ward was amazed to inherit her great-aunt Matilda’s thatched cottage in the tiny seaside village of Little Pondale – especially as Mia didn’t know she had a great-aunt Matilda. She was equally astonished to discover she’d only inherit the place if she lives there for a year.

But it didn’t take long for Mia and her friends, Ella and Garrick to settle in. Now Mia’s mum, Lori has joined them, and they’re all enjoying village life. Mia’s keen to overcome her fear of water and with Garrick by her side, she’s confident about the future.

Until a fortune teller’s predictions give everyone cause for concern. Now Mia’s not so sure of anything, except that someone still wants her to leave. That makes her more determined to learn all she can about Matilda – and the codicil.

But as the mists roll in over the sea, are autumn winds making passions cool? And when more than one unexpected visitor gives Mia a shocking surprise, is everything about to change?
