Author Bio

Lasairiona McMaster PhotoLasairiona McMaster grew up dreaming of an exciting life abroad, and, after graduating from Queens University, Belfast, that is exactly what she did – with her then-boyfriend, now husband of almost ten years. Having recently repatriated to Northern Ireland after a decade abroad spanned over two countries (seven and a half years in America and eighteen months in India), she now finds herself ‘home’, with itchy feet and dreams of her next expatriation. With a penchant for both travelling, and writing, she started a blog during her first relocation to Houston, Texas and, since repatriating to Northern Ireland, has decided to do as everyone has been telling her to do for years, and finally pen a book (or two) and get published while she tries to adjust to the people and place she left ten years ago, where nothing looks the same as it did when she left.

My Review

When I read the Lisa Millar story, I wanted to read at the same time AJ’s POV since I felt that we were missing his side of the story. So, when I got the chance to read book one in the AJ Williams series, I was very excited. Now I have read the second book, and there are still a lot of little details that I’m love to learn.

I still found it’s a bit difficult to write a review for this book, just like I did with book one, for the same reason, because the world and story are in my head and heart. But!… if I enjoyed the previous books, you can bet I certainly love this one as well.

P1070706As I kept following AJ and reading about his thoughts and the reasoning for his actions, I found myself getting a lot more connected with him than in the previous book, and that what I did in the Lisa Millar series. We get to go deeper into his emotional state and mental health aspects, we get to see is daily life and learn how he’s changing with each book. And in the end, it brought some extra answers.

Yet again, I was taken on a journey about a character and plot that isn’t your usual story and MC. We continue to understand the friendships and interactions in a different way than with the other series, and it added some layers to the storytelling. The characters were complex and getting to learn more about what makes them tick was interesting.

The balanced between the complexity in the story and simplicity in certain scenes, was something I enjoyed. Sure, I know what is going on, but that doesn’t mean I know all the smaller details. A story is full of POVs, depending on the person we are listen to. And the way the author let’s the character tell his story this time just add to that dynamic in my mind. That’s why I felt as if it was a complex book in terms of the subjects talked about, and simple with certain scenes that were just moments were all experience daily.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. It was a continuation of the previous book, opening our eyes for even more aspects of the story that we may have not paid attention. Plus, since it does end with a cliffhanger, we get compelled to get the third book in the series so we know more. And to those that are curious about this series, I recommend you to start with book one or start with Lisa Millar Series.

My Review

P1070071Compared to some other genres, I haven’t read as many YA novels as some other readers, but I’m trying to change that, because I’m trying to get out of my comfort zone and read other genres. That been said, when I got the opportunity to read this book, I jumped in. The synopsis made me wonder about the plot, the characters and how everything would end up.

The book follows a teenager girl called Silver Abelli, as she deals with daily stuff, as well as the unexpected turns that life brings, plus all the perks of being part of her family. I loved that this novel shows the ups and downs of life, from divorce and illness to simply stay true to who you are and being independent.

I like the characters in an over all, because of all the interactions and the relationships between them. Silver was an awesome character, and it was fun reading because of how she stand out and her personality. She was different and I loved that.

P1060635The plot was interesting and the all book ended up feeling real to me because of all the subjects that are talked about  in the novel. I can understand the divorce aspect from the point of view of the couple’s child, but I also know what illness (cancer, tumors, chronic illness,…) does not only to the person that is ill, as well as the family members and friends. The fact that this book talks about both topics and leaves things open to discussion, and the reader wondering and feeling like part of the family and the life described in the storyline… It all connected with me.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. And it was exciting in a way, thought provoking in others, and in the end, it made me enjoy this journey with the characters, going through the drama, excitement that is life.

About Author

Sacha Black has five obsessions; words, expensive shoes, conspiracy theories, self-improvement, and breaking the rules. She also has the mind of a perpetual sixteen-year-old, only with slightly less drama and slightly more bills.

Sacha writes books about people with magical powers and other books about the art of writing. She lives in Hertfordshire, England, with her wife and genius, giant of a son.

When she’s not writing, she can be found laughing inappropriately loud, blogging, sniffing musty old books, fangirling film and TV soundtracks, or thinking up new ways to break the rules.

My Review

P1050391First of all let me tell you guys that I loved this book, I want that opinion to be out there before I go it to more details of the things I loved about this book. It’s the first book in the series and I hope I get to read Victor next year.

Sacha de Black created and amazingly complex and well crafted world, Trutinor, and I could try to explain it, but that would take out the fun for all of those that haven’t read it, so I recommend you guys to read the book and understand all the rules of Trutinor page after page. And the fact that it’s a complex and well built world show how much work the author putted in her book and that makes me appreciate it even more because it was absolutely amazing.

P1050222Now the characters… We follow Eden East, epic name by the way, and she the main character of this book a strong but also vulnerable character, that was just relatable and intriguing. Eden, like all the characters in this book, isn’t black and white. They all have flaws and you can see their development and every chance, which makes them feel real.

There are a lot of characters, from Keepers to Fallons… Every single one serves a role in this world and were dynamic characters, and it all played well with the plot, the world, the action and the pace. It may be a fantasy novel, but that doesn’t mean it’s not as real as any other book, that’s because of Sacha’s ability to create a reality in a fictional, new world, book.

P1050392That been said, the novel has a lot of elements that turned a great recipe into an even greater final product. From the world building and the characters to the exciting, fun and action-packed plot. Every twist and turn, every new information I uncover, every little element about the world and the storyline I understood better, and every action scene made the novel flow smoothly.

And in the end, it made me get focus and feel I was in that journey with the characters. That happened because of the author’s writing style and awesome descriptions. A good action scene could be exciting and epic, but it would really grab my attention hundred percent if it didn’t made my mind fill up with all the images, sounds, smells, sensations, adrenaline and emotion. And Sacha de Black did that in her book, she gave us visuals to her book in the form of well thought out word combinations.

Overall, I just want to say that I loved the book and that I can’t wait to be able to read the next one and to keep going into the depth of this world and series.

My Review

P1060901I haven’t read many LGBT books, and it was something I really wanted to do so I could expand my knowledge of other books and different genres. This book sounded appealing to me. From the cover to the blurb, and the fact that it was an YA novel because I haven’t read many books that are YA compared to other genres.

This book is about love, friendship, drugs, troubled families and high schools problems that don’t help the overall situation of life. It’s about a young men finding out who he really is and realizing that that’s okay, is about his life dealing with all the challenges in his life, about how he copes with all the problems.

Jack has had a hard life and has I got to know more about him and his life, as well as his thoughts, dreams and wishes, I felt empathy and I wanted to be his friend. The way that the author wrote the characters made them seem real, they could be real, and that just touches my heart with sadness for everyone that has gone (or is still living) through this situations.

P1060096The characters interactions are a big part of this book. The characters and the plot could be amazing, but if the dynamics between characters were so well written the all storyline wouldn’t feel the same. That been said, I loved those interactions, especially all the moments between Jack and Connor.

There is this sweet and cute love with Jack and Connor and I loved it. Like I said before, I loved all the moments between them. When they were sharing stories and opening themselves to each other, I felt like I could connect with them in a way, and I loved reading those scenes because I could see their relationship growing, and that’s always something I love. I love when I get to see growth and development in the characters.

Overall, this novel was awesome. It was captivating, emotional and it made me think. It was a story that showed us young people dealing with every challenge in their lives and it felt real. It touched many subjects of our society, from family dynamics to drugs, from sexual orientation to friendships and love. And I loved reading this book and totally recommend it.

“Just For A While” Review

Hello friends,

A couple weeks ago I got an email from Zoe requesting a review. I was intrigued by the blurb and of course I accepted and here are my thoughts about the book.

P1050240But before that, here is the blurb:

Charlotte Harrington is capable of love, but the feelings of love, of letting anyone close to her, scare her.

Seventeen-year-old Charlotte’s life turns brusquely when her mother sends her away to spend the summer before college with her father—a man she knows nothing about and cares even less for. Thus, forced by a promise she made to her mom, and having secretly thrown her future away, Charlie finds herself stuck for an indefinite time in the coastal town of Rosetown. Raised by a single mother, Charlotte grew up to be an independent, suspicious, and lonely girl. To make matters worse, she is stubborn to the bone. Moving in with Daniel proves to be a challenge for both of them, as he will try his best to get to know her, and she will systematically undo his every attempt.

When Misha Breckenridge literally bumps into her life, along with his mesmerizing black eyes and his challenging ways, Charlotte finds herself stepping in quicksand. Despite her attempts to keep him —and every other person, for that matter—at a safe distance, Misha will soon find his way into her heart, making her lower her guard and open her long-closed heart to love.

As the summer unfolds, Rosetown and its memorable inhabitants inevitably start to grow on Charlotte. But, will she ever manage to forgive Daniel for walking out on her and her mother? Will she be able to let him into her heart and her life?

“Just For A While” is Zøe Haslie’s debut novel, a tale of love, friendship, struggling family relationships and, above all, forgiveness.

Don’t forget to add the book to your Goodreads TBR so you can check it out in the future.

Sem TítuloJust For a While” was one of those books that just made my heart and soul get emotional. It was bittersweet at some points and heartwarming in others, but it was definitely hopeful.

I  loved how Zoe, the author, wrote the all story because I could visualize it and I could understand the characters with every moment and with each page I read. And it certainly made me emotional right from the very beginning.

I found myself connecting with all the characters. I was feeling Charlotte’s pain and I was so rooting for her to find herself again and I got even more excited as soon as she saw all the art materials. I had my fingers crossed waiting for Charlie and Daniel to form a father/daughter relationship and just thinking about my dad too. I was laughing with Anna because she reminded me of my aunt. I was loving Misha because of how kind he was and how he always thought of his sister. I befriend Olivia at the same time Charlotte did and found myself getting protective of her but at the same time thinking about slapping her too, then hugging her.

Charlotte is an artist and even though I’m not very artistic, I love to just stare at painting and just feel and not really think about life. I could relate to her because I’m a writer and we both create things from our hearts. Plus, my mom is everything to me too, she’s the one person I know will always support me.

p1050220.jpg

I can also relate to Misha, I didn’t go to the University I wanted, to study Anthropology, because my family needed me. Thankfully the next year I applied to the local College in Leiria and I’m now on my last year. I’m the oldest, I’m the big sister to a 16year old teenage boy, so I’m very protective of him.

Those are just some reasons I could connect to them.

I was expecting more, I didn’t want the book to end. I wanted to know that would happen to Olivia, I wanted to know about Charlotte and Misha’s future… But that’s the thing, when a book just clicks in our hearts, it makes us invested in the storyline and in the characters, and we don’t want it to end. That’s not a bad thing, it’s actually a good thing.

This book touched a lot of topics, like cancer, disconnected families, teen pregnancy, depression, bipolar disorders, and of course love, friendship, trust, loss and finding ourselves. So, this book ended up making me think a lot.

It was a 5* read to me and I totally recommend it.5-stars
