My Review

There are authors whose names we easily recognize even without having read one of their books. Nora Roberts is one of those authors. With “Hidden Riches”, I finally entered the world of Nora Roberts and I can say that I’m now even more curious to read her other novels.

20200515_153417In this book we follow Dora and Jed, an antiques store owner and a former police officer. A story that follows the world of antiques, from the first moment that it is presented to us by Dora at an art auction. With each page read we meet an interesting group of characters, including those we know are the villains. Now, the ‘why’ is something that we discover with each chapter and each information revealed.

Personally, I loved the story. Very captivating, not only for the element of art and antiques that I find fascinating, but also for all the romance and interaction between characters.

The story has a paced rhythm, sometimes slow, creating tension and drama. Another aspect that I also liked, as it establishes a firm basis for the story and creates interest in what will happen next. Furthermore, with the passion simmering between Dora and Jed, the fact that there is this type of slower but intense rhythm, leads to pressure, a sexual tension, that even when released, remains alive in all moments of interaction between the characters.

20200515_153452Although I didn’t think there was any intense suspense, the amount that it did have balanced well with the romance and the peculiar characters. So, I think it was a very balanced book, which let my curiosity increase with each chapter and each revelation and moment of action.

In general, “Hidden Riches” had all the elements I like in a story. I’m glad it was with this book that I finally started my journey through the world of Nora Roberts’ imaginary.

If you like art, antiques, a good dose of mystery and crime, and romance… and have never read a book by this author… this is a good story to venture out on. Extra: it happens during Christmas and New Year! And who doesn’t like parties and eccentricity?
