“The Lights of Time” Review

Hello Friends!

I hope you are all having a good week so far. Second day of work and I’m still trying to figure out my new schedule, that’s why I haven’t been posting earlier. But hopefully I will get back on track this weekend. You also may have realized that I haven’t been adding photos to my posts, but that’s because I haven’t been able to do a photo shoot. I have some photos for some of the posts, but not all of them. Nevertheless, I will had photos this weekend.

Today’s review is of “The Lights of Time“, written by Paul Ian Cross, a Science-Fiction novel that is the first book in The Chronicles of Engella Rhys series, and was published the 27th November 2018.

Happy Release Day, Paul!

I want to thank Rachel, at Rachel’s Random Resources, and Paul for the eCopy of this book and for allowing me to join in the fun and by being a part of the blog tour with my honest review of the book.

Author Bio

Paul Ian CrossPaul Ian Cross is a multi-award-winning children’s author and scientist from London, UK.

Paul works in clinical research (developing new medicines) and he’s also involved in science communication; presenting science to non-scientists. He enjoys his science career but he also has a real passion for writing stories! He likes introducing children to the wonders of science, especially reluctant readers. By introducing science creatively, he aims to spark their interest; allowing them to gain confidence with their reading. As a previous reluctant reader himself, he understands how hard it can be. But it’s all about making reading fun and interesting!

Paul’s nephew Hayden influenced his decision to become a writer. He loved seeing Hayden’s reaction when his sister Michelle first read one of Paul’s stories to him!

In his spare time, Paul likes to visit new and exciting places. One of his favourite places is Scotland, especially the Isle of Skye.

Paul’s debut picture book, Praxx and the Ringing Robot, won second prize in the ‘Picture Books 5 and Younger’ category at the Purple Dragonfly Book Awards 2017. The book trailer also won first place in the ‘book trailer’ category at the Royal Dragonfly Book Awards later that year.

Paul’s second book, Planet Scrabbage and the Vegerons, won an honourable mention in both the ‘Picture Books 6 and Over’ and ‘Health’ categories at the Purple Dragonfly Book Awards 2018.

And that brings us to now… Paul is currently working on several new books. Paul’s debut upper middle grade novel will be published in 2018. The Lights of Time is the first novel in a brand-new series: The Chronicles of Engella Rhys.

Paul hopes you enjoy reading his stories as much as he enjoyed writing them!

My Review

P1060488.JPGThis is the first book I have ever read of Paul Ian Cross and I liked this book a lot. It’s the first book of a new series and that means it’s the introduction of the world and the main character and all the companions and people around her. Which of course came with a lot of questions and various open doors for the future of the series, and I will be keeping it in mind because I’m curious.

I liked the main character (her name is just intriguing and give this sci-fi vibe that made sense because of genre). Engella is a complex character that I could connect with. It was fun and intriguing to read how she acted and reacted in all the different situations she ended up in and how she interacted with the all the characters along the way.

P1060482I also liked the plot and the world building a lot. I found it interesting, since it was a take on the time traveling aspect with some new and unique components that made this world be mysterious and really in a different time. So, of course I was glued to the screen while reading this book.

Overall, this was a great start to a sci-fi series. With mystery, action, complex world and amazingly well written characters that bring out the story more.
