“Aphrodite’s Closet” Review

Hello Friends!

Like I said in the previous post, I have two reviews today, this is the second one.

I had the opportunity to read “Aphrodite’s Closet“, written by Suzy Turner. And funny thing… Suzy lives in Portugal so I hope I can met her one day and give her a big hug.

I want to thank Rachel, at Rachel’s Random Resources, and Suzy for the eCopy of this book and for allowing me to join in the fun and by being a part of the blog tour with my honest review of the book.

Aphrodite's Closet NEW COVERAgatha Trout didn’t even know she had a Great Aunt Petunia, so imagine her surprise when she finds Petunia left her a corner shop in her will. But it’s not just any old corner shop—it’s a corner shop that needs something unique, something the town of Frambleberry has never seen before.

Influenced by her confident best friend, Coco, Agatha is soon convinced that there’s only one way to go: an adults-only sex shop.

While some of the townspeople are clutching their pearls in horror, others are open to the new experiences this shop offers. But not everyone in Frambleberry is convinced. Will the women soldier on in the face of violent threats or will their fears get the best of them—and their new venture—before it even gets off the ground?

My Review

P1060982This is my first Suzy Turner book and I loved it. First of all the cover seems so classic, like the logo of the shop, and for some reason I like it a lot. And after seeing the cover and reading the blurb of course I was curious to know what the book would turned out to be.

Let me tell you why I loved the book. First I have never been in an adults-only sex shop, despite having read one or to books were one is mentioned, it’s not the same, but I would like to visit one so I can see, in real life, how the shops in the big city are structured and how the merchandise is promoted. Besides that I live in a small town so when I read about it, I started thinking about how my hometown would react with a sex shop opened here.

P1060981Well… I know it would be scandal if that happened here, so I wasn’t surprised that happened with Agatha’s shop. Although I half expected that to happen, I loved the interactions between the characters because of it. Plus… to spike things up… we had to have mystery with someone that was against the shop and didn’t care what he/she had to do to sabotage the new business. And that just made the book even more amazing.

Then there were the characters… I already said I love the interactions, but I also loved the determination in Agatha and her best friend Coco in trying their hardest to get the business going, despite all the comments and side looks. And I loved Agatha’s development during the book and all the confidence she got with each chapter.

P1060956And if that wasn’t enough, Suzy gave us an amazing storyline with brilliant descriptions that made everything seemed real, and that combined with the dialogues and characters’ personalities, I felt I was taken to that small town and befriended Agatha and Coco.

Overall, this was an amazing book with humor, mystery and that shows the possibility of the start of a new chapter in our lives, and reinventing ourselves. The fact that Agatha got the shop was her opportunity to do something different, to change her life, to create new future opportunities. But she could have just sold the shop, or turned it into a coffee place, or a bookstore,  but she and her bestie did something different and unexpected. And that was the start of something new. And I liked that in the book.
